I guess debit because it's a little more secure. I mean, with credit cards, if somebody steals yours, he can learn your signature and buy stuff with it. Also, I have one of my dad's credit cards for school and I sign my name on the receipts. It's fine, but what if I had stolen his credit card? The people who make me sign don't analyze the signatures and compare. The computer doesn't compare them... And I can attest because I never stood there and compared signatures at my job.

But with debit cards, you have to enter your pin number. So as long as nobody looks at you and you keep it secret, it's safe, even if you lost it!

That's kind of true, but in UK we have pins on both.

When you order stuff online or over the phone, if it turns out to be fraudulent then credit card companies will not charge you for that particular item (if proved to be fraud), or if there's a big f*ck up that's not your fault. However with a debit card the payment goes through straight away and so you can't regain it unless whoever you paid decided to refund you.

However I still think debit is better long term as you can only spend what you've got, not what you might get.

I like having the bank write one big giant check to my credit card company. It makes me feel... impotent (I likes ebonics) ;)
