Stalin killed 10 million of his own people. Let's not forget that the Soviets suffered a famine back in 1932 that killed even more. Even Russians consider Stalin an evil man. This guy made Hitler look like child's play. He also decimated the majority of Russian leadership across the board, including the military which bore a heavy cost in WW2.

I'm sure there are many examples of both good and bad resulting from his rule. However, you just can't ignore the fact a large swath of society died because of him. Forgiving the deaths because some people in some places did benefit is not all that different from forgiving the Holocaust because some Germans came out ahead during Hitler's reign.
