of course it did. the KKK never vote for the major parties (I was hoping that the fact Obama could win would make them bite the bullet and vote Republican), but many liberal thinkers who DON'T VOTE think "fuck, a black guy could become president" and of course, vote.

then there's the fact that EVERY BLACK PERSON is going to vote for Obama, at least, the ones who never voted before.

then there's the Hollywood trend who sees a "young, black, extremely liberal politicians running for the office" and they struggle very hard trying to get non-voting liberals to vote because "for the first time in history, a black man can become president of the USA".

unless you've been living under a rock these past two years, it's obvious that race has played a role.

I don't live under a rock.

A black friend of mine said that she knows of people who are not voting for Obama, even though they are black, too...

i know of people who believe that Lincoln knew about the Moth Man, but that doesn't mean much.

yes, of course some black people voted McCain (people who see beyond color), but lets face it, most liberal blacks who never vote decided that they need to vote now, for history.

Wow, your sooo right...the only people who are racist against African Americans are KKK members.

And then of course there's the fact that most people voting for Obama only did it because of race. Who cares that he is one of the best orrators in recent political history, or the fact that he won states like New Hampshire or Colorado.

Let's be real here. Weather you agree with him or not, Obama inspires people. It's the same thing that Kennedy did, it's the same thing that Reagan did. The only thing that's significant about race in this election is the role it didn't play. Sure more African Americans voted for Obama, but they tend to vote overwhelmingly democratic anyway. There were factors much more significant, such as negative feelings towards Bush.

If you think race is what won Obama the election then I challenge you to look at Florida. Cubans are historically Republican, but third generation Cubans living in Florida tended to come out for Obama. Why? Because they grew up in world run by a Republican president who failed on so many levels.

Did race play a role? Probably, but not nearly what your implying.

Honestly, any democrat would have won this race. Don't think because people disagree with you that their not basing their decisions on the issues.

Bravo Soc! Well said and I agree 100%.

ignore the constant Hollywood insight on "we will finally have an African American president". ignore all the blacks who voted for the first time just to change history.

wow, Obama can speak well. i always thought the underdog inspired people more often than that rich kid with good charisma.

Come on! Of course it did!

The KKK and "black haters" across the country RAN to the polls.

Jeramiah Wright's church and 98% of all African-American's in the country voted for Obama. 75% because he was the same color. For the most part.

I am not at all racist, but it is impossible to be color blind. I can see when people act on something then fall back on there race/gender.

Yes. I think race did play a role in the recent US Presidential election. But not in a 'black' vs. 'white' way. I think many people across America were in awe of this man who stood up against the odds because he was an African American. I personally do not think he is the best President for America, but I do not say this because he is African American. I say this because I do not think he has the skills in order to survive being President. As I complete my argument, I would like to say I'm not having a go at Barack Obama or John McCain, I just think race did play a role in the US Presidential Election.

That is just my opinion. Of course race played a part in the election. I'm not sure if you've noticed...Obama's an African American.

Side: yes

Based on the CNN data that I just saw, it looks like race did not play a role with most voters. I am glad that this issue is starting to be put behind us... but I do think that there is still more work to be done!

I'm not sure if your question is referring to the election in general, or personal choices, but for myself, race was not a factor. There are far more important things to base such a large decision on.

Side: No

It is said that race did not play a role in the decision from exit polls and such. Hard for me to believe for I know the prejudice that still exists here. I hope this is the beginning of the end of it but probably not.

It was truly the man they voted for. On top of that he just happened to be a Mulatto and it's high time it went that way.
