The Nazis despised the European left, they killed millions of Communists, they were predominantly Christian, they were bigoted against a specific religion which they blamed for everything, they thought crime was race related, they were hardcore patriots, they loved guns and they hated gays.

The difference is that in WW2 there actually were Nazis and lots of them. The lack of sufficient Nazis to fight means Antifa must pretend that all who disagree are Nazis. This makes them an aggressive lot that wants to violently suppress the freedoms of others. In this way they are like the enemy the process to oppose.

Bias matters stupid. Academics agree the Nazi are right wing because they choose to focus on Nazi nationalism rather than Nazi socialistic policies. This bias obscures the distinction between Nazis and the modern right wing US, which is predominantly capitalistic, while emphasizing the distinction and ignoring the similarities between Nazism and the left. The institutions required for capitalism necessarily support economic liberty and are thus antithetical to authoritarianism. Which means antithetical to Nazis. Physically attacking your political opponents, an increasingly common left wing tactic, is not antithetical to that kind of authoritarianism.
This leftist bias also chooses to focus much less on the death toll from the atrocities of the multiple communist failures of the 20th Century. It’s not a cover up and it’s not a plot. It’s confirmation bias.

Academia is the professional study of facts, so if you are morally comfortable insisting that facts have a left wing bias then I am morally comfortable agreeing with you.
Since most of the professors are liberal academics. In some areas of study, all professors are liberal. The convey their bias to their students. Once upon a time most academics were conservative and, surprise surprise, so were most educated people.

Scholars refer to the Nazis as being right wing not based on their economics, but their racism and nationalism. Stating (accurately) that the Nazis were Socialist is not to say they weren’t racist or nationalistic. But that only makes them different from the Communists in that the commies are classist and globalists. So while Nazis wanted the world to be white Germany, the Russians wanted the world to be united proletariat Communists. Not a big difference since both were authoritarian socialists.
