I worked for a large German corporation for almost 20 years. I actually met my first REAL Nazi in the Philippines while working for a previous company. SHE was the wife of a German engineer I was working with. She even seemed to hiss like a snake when she talked, almost started a fight at the table of Imelda Markos' brother when she remarked about the "terrible things" that were done to Berlin during the war. Another colleague (from Netherlands) stood up with fire in his eyes and asked her if she had ever heard of Rotterdam! Her husband quieted the situation and suggested we change the subject ... good idea!

I also saw "skinheads" in a park in Dusseldorf with their huge Dobermanns (not very well received by the locals!) I met a couple of others that did not "admit" to being Nazis, but, they were somewhat obvious. Yeah, they still exist ... in numbers. The fact that crooked Trump has the stupidity to compare them to Americans worried about them getting stronger is, at the least, troubling! There are many, though not Nazis, still carry the arrogance of them. I worked for a few!

A few years ago there was this kid who was expelled from my school for openly identifying as a neo-nazi and harassing non-white students.

I have lived in 3 of the 4 corners of the US, and in Texas, and I have never run into Nazis, neo-Nazis, members of the Ku Klux Klan, or any similarly oriented organization.

California: The closest I have ever come was when almost all skinheads in Southern California were still apolitical, but a few were starting to look at Nazism.

This skinhead and I were talking at a party, and he said, "This racism shit is stupid. Me, I hate everybody."

That is a long way from meeting an actual Nazi.

I grew up in Southern California in the 70s and 80s, and the Klan was merely the butt of jokes. It wasn't even a tale to scare children.

Washington, Oregon, Idaho: All the years I lived in the Pacific Northwest, I never met any Nazis, Klansmen, or supporters of any White supremacist organization.

Texas: Living in Texas for five years, I never met a single White supremacist of any political stamp. Texans are very tolerant, especially compared to Southern California and the Bay area.

South Carolina: South Carolinians would crucify Nazis (Neo or not) for being anti-American.

Near as I can tell, Dylan Roof was universally condemned locally as being an asshole, a wuss and an idiot--South Carolinians are just not interested in a race war.

I have lived in a tiny town in South Carolina (and commuted to the "city" of Charleston for work) for seven years. I have never met or even heard rumors of Neo-Nazis or the KKK.

I know a very few people who remember parents or grandparents being Klansmen back in the 40s and 50s. These descendants all think that racism is a severe character flaw. In addition to that, I get the sense they think White supremacy is old fashioned stupidity, kind of like thinking the world is flat.

Societal Strata: It is not like I associate only with one segment of society, either. I don't just hang out with conservatives, or liberals, or college educated people, or professionals, or blue collar workers, or Christians or etc..

Out of the pretty wide swath of Americans culture I have observed and participated in, I just haven't ever directly observed Nazis, neo-Nazis, or the KKK.

I have not lived in the Northeast or the Midwest, so maybe they are there.

Wherever they are, there must be very few of them.

Hello marcus:

Well, there's your problem.. They DON'T wear uniforms, cepting when they wanna parade. Your smiling bus driver might be a white supremacist.. Your plumber could be a Nazi..

I live in the NW too, and like you, I've never met a Nazi either... But, that doesn't mean they're not here.. In fact, northern Idaho is a veritable bastion of white supremacy and hate.. You've heard of the "Order" and the Aryan Nation, haven't you? They started a HATE rush to Northern Idaho, and it hasn't stopped..

So, if you're suggesting that because you don't SEE 'em, that they're not there, you need to look a little harder..

Hello Exconvict:

Here's your problem....your smiling bus driver might support No Restriction abortions of viable babies for any reason up to birth when he votes for the Democrat Party.

Your plumber could be a some guy who abandoned his son after a one night hookup.

Your TV repairmen might be someone electing politicians who are trying to take our guns as they did in New York with the Safe Act.

Your mailman might be a Leftwing Gay activist who sued Churches trying to force them to have Gay Sunday school teachers.

Maybe the guy who installed your refrigerator is an illegal immigrant!

Maybe your barber is a bigot that Hates Christians for merely beliving in God and trying to keep their faith from being distorted by Leftwing bigots.

Why is it that people on the Left only demonize those people who do not belong to their special interest groups?

Excon!

Good to hear (read?) from you.

So, if you're suggesting that because you don't SEE 'em, that they're not there, you need to look a little harder.

You are clearly correct.

I don't know about you, but I have always talked politics/issues/social philosophy, etc. with most of the folks I know (except my students or my CPS clients), so other than the casual brush (e.g., with a bus driver) I think my sample is reasonably representative.

My point was not that there are none. (Our prison populations alone make it obvious that they exist in the US.) My point was merely that there are very few, even compared to other racist groups like Black Lives matter.

If there were lots of these dipshits, we would see them more.

Here I am in what one would expect to be Klan central. If I cannot find a Klansman in a rural Southern town of 1000, and they don't leave any traces of any activities in the area, I am pretty sure we are talking about a pretty small local membership roster.

Nazis, neo-Nazis, KKK, Aryan Nation, etc., are apparently doing remarkably little of note, otherwise they would be easier to spot. During last year's "unpleasantness" about the "Confederate" flag on the South Carolina Statehouse Grounds, a group of 25-50 Klan members & supporters showed up and marched, but most were reported as not being from South Carolina. Those idiots came from Georgia, South and North Carolina, and Tennessee, but still only managed 50 people.

The largest nationwide KKK membership number I have heard is 5,000, and the smallest is 1,000. At most, that is 0.015% of the US population.

That seems to indicate (at least some of) why you and I haven't met any of them. Even when there is a white hood on the needle, it is still very hard to find it in a haystack.

Another set of factors that makes finding these dickheads difficult are the misidentifications thrown out by the far left crazies who call anybody a Nazi who voted for Trump and anybody a racist who wants secure borders.

Some organizations that have the potential to provide data about this, contaminate their own data with bias and downright fiction. For example, the Southern Poverty Law center invalidates their own "Hate Map" with false identifications. In addition to identifying White supremacists, it also identifies organizations as "hate groups" for merely disagreeing with them about any issue related to LBGT, immigration, abortion, or Affirmative action.

These things make otherwise valid data points suspect because they are mixed in with so much erroneous nonsense.

Somehow, I just don't feel like I am missing out on a particularly valuable social experience by never having met a Klansman or a Nazi (or an Aryan brother/sister, etc.)
