I am a firm believer of what Streisand sang ' People who need other people are the luckiest people in the world '. Sure sometimes you may find somebody unbearable but all in all people are what make the world go round. How can you say you cannot stand people as a whole when you depend on many people for food, being taught the necessities of life, how to play a sport ... the list is infinite. If you believe this way look at it this way if you were all alone in the world could you truly say that you are happy? A young man lost his life running from those he cared about. This young man ran into the wild where he died writing the famous words ' true happiness is reached with others ' Side: Hell NO

In order to agree or disagree with the line, one must first understand what its full meaning is. It is not a simple statement but rather one that has meaning through the context of the character and play. When Garcin utters those words he is saying that if a mans impression of himself comes only from other people and he believes them to be true, ignoring his own sense of self, he cannot truly exist nor live up to his fullest potential. In that context I must agree that "Hell is other people." Side: Hell Yes
