You both make good points, if we wait until there is an imminent threat and the world is about to be destroyed then it will be to late to do the neccesary research to get us to another planet that could be colonised but unless the debt problem is sorted out we're screwed anyway.

I think the only way to get the human race into space and find another planet capable of sustaining the human race we all need to stop thinking of ourselves as separate countries and start thinking of ourselves as the human race. What is needed is a decent international space program funded by everyone instead of just one country pouring money in.

America needs to sort out the problems it has now (i've said America because of the debate title but the World does because nearly all countries are in stupid amount of debt with rampant record unemployment and people starving and living on the streets) once that is done then the world can start looking at Space but we need to sort this planet out first before we start looking for new planets to fuck up.

we are all fighting each other over dumb shit The only fights we've really been in through the last couple hundred years are to help other countries out. Is it dumb to save people from 'evil'? Is that really how you think? If you think that we should work on morality than that's even a bigger reason to expand out military. If you want to rid the world of immoral people then we need to do something about it, and we can't do anything when they can over power us. (Not that any SINGLE nation can do that currently.)

Again, we can't do anything about it right now when we're too unstable as it is. I'm not saying that we need to wait too long, just until we can do it without worrying.

what sickens me is when humans say they give a shit about there kids and there grand kids because in reality they don't idiotic. where do you get this from? I know there are lots of families out there like that, but the majority are not.

no place to claim, whats power if we have no home or planet We're not going to lose our planet any time soon. The chance of us being wiped out in the next 1,000 years are quite slim. I mean dinosaurs were on the planet for millions of years, we might be here for billions. We don't know. We've come so far in the last 1,000 years, but again, we need to take it slow and steady. Lets look at it in a different way, if we get our economy back up, we'd have money to spare on the space program, without having to risk the people of our nation. The future is important, but we're not going to get to the future if we ruin our present.
