Do you believe there should be a Good Samaritan law?

If someone is in danger and you have the ability to assist them (be it by physically helping them yourself or by calling the authorities) but you do nothing, should you be held responsible if they die or are injured?

Well yes, but you describe it wrong. It's not a mandate that people who can help should or else face punishments. It's a protection that if someone tries to help and thinks they're doing the right thing but it somehow goes wrong that they shouldn't be treated as a common criminal, because they had good intentions all along. I can support the latter.

If you think someone stopped breathing and you try to do mouth to mouth and in the process they get hurt somehow they shouldn't be allowed to treat you like a rapist or murderer.

I think I am, I'm trying to figure out the best way to title it. I added, I hope, a better description.

Boston Boy i don't think Mint mentioned a mandate did she ? But you better know that if you don't stop and render aid you could face punishment.

Good Samaritan laws will not protect you from failure to stop and render aid you can bet on that.

There are two examples I can think of that counteract each other in this debate.

The first:

The Florida teens who not only recorded but laughed at a man drowning. They did nothing to help or call police.

The second:

A lady was sued by her friend when she pulled said friend from a wrecked vehicle and that friend sustained further injury.

If there were laws that held a person responsible for not helping a person in danger when it is within their means to do so, how far do you think that law should go?

If there is a good Samaritan law in place, do you think anything should happen to the person who is genuinely trying to help but maybe makes the matter a little worse?

I hope that makes it a little more clear?

Side: Yes

Nope. If I put an attacker down on the ground and hurt him, now I'm obligated to revive him? Don't think so.

I'm not talking about an attacker, I'm talking about a victim or a person in danger who has done nothing to harm you previously....if that clarification is needed.

Are you completely ignorant about absolutely everything? Seriously, its every topic you make. Look up good samaritan law.

Hello Mint:

Nahhh... First off, I don't like the government telling me what to do. Secondarily, if I DO assist, there'll always be somebody who'll say that I should have done more or done it differently..

Plus, if people help ME, I wanna know they're doing it because they actually wanna HELP me instead of doing what they're told..

I don't like anything about it.

I think their description of what a Good Samaritan law means is twisted. It doesn't mean you HAVE to help. It means a Good Samaritan shouldn't have to be AFRAID of trying to help if they think they can. It's a protection, not a mandate.

No mandate was ever brought up you just dreamed it up Boston Boy but understand this if you fail to render aid don't even doubt the law will come down on you and you can cry it's not a mandate probably because you know more about the law than the law but they won't care. To this point i thought you Leftist were the most caring but now you deny that ?
