Do you care what people think?

Everybody cares at some level, what makes people differ is how much they allow that caring to grow.

If they think like me... yes. Otherwise... no.

Side: I'm desperate.

I try not to care and most times I don't but its hard and sometimes you find yourself inadvertently caring what someone thinks. I don't think its possible to not care what others think all the time.

The question is about what? My self esteem? My welfare? My opinions? The old saying goes ' charity starts at home' and it rings true to me. Rational self interest should be a top priority.

Yet, I do care what my friends, family and Philosophy teachers think , if their thinking are reasonable and I can get benefit from their insights then I should care. This is why I joined this debate organization to have constructive arguments to increase my knowledge and also to acquire the skills to debate crooked thinkers.

Do I care what people on this site think of me? No, not really. I mean. This place is as bad as it gets. But in my life? With my friends and family, and with other communities I'm in? I'm positively terrified by leaving a bad impression or being excluded or knowing someone hates me or thinking someone hates me. It gets to the point where my anxiety is so overwhelming that I start to develop psychosomatic responses in the form of my heart literally hurting(A lot), loss of vision, shakier breathing, uncontrollable trembling. That kind of stuff. I've had to leave in the middle of college classes before. Which is. Frightfully embarrassing and only makes it worse later.

And I realize how stupid it is, but there's a disconnect between my emotions and my thoughts and I really haven't been able to mend it. It uh. It sucks. A lot.

Side: I'm desperate.

I'm not desperate, but I do care what people think, as does everyone to a certain point. I'll be honest and say I am pretty insecure, so I am always trying to please everyone and make myself as presentable as possible. I care too much, definitely more than I should.

Considering the truth of the statement that "No one can escape the influence of the prevailing ideology", I care deeply what others think. Further, anyone who would bother express themselves to others, or listens to others, cares what other people think.

Side: I'm desperate.

99% of the population, I could care less what they think.

Side: I'm mentally free.

I am one of those 99%'s.

So you are assuming that 100% of the population is thinking about you? That seems kind of megalomanic.

Side: I'm desperate.

You assumed wrong, I only assume 1% of the population is thinking of me. Not even that, people whom I care about.

Side: I'm mentally free.

The important factor in determining ones own character and mental freedom, is the choice one makes about whose opinion they care about. One can't care what everyone thinks without being a phony. If one doesn't care what anyone thinks, they may be a sociopath.

Side: I'm mentally free.

I don't care ;)

If its some stranger or somebody I don't know then I don't care what they think about me.

What if that stranger becomes your new boss? Would you care then?

What I mean is that they can be a stranger now but, they may become someone you will have to have some sort of relationship with later on.

Side: I'm desperate.

Yeah I would care.

I'm not completely void of other's sentiments, but I'm not as desperate as to fish online for compliments, or not wear what I'd like for fear of chastisement.

I think to a certain extent we all care what others think, it's healthy to. Anyone who doesn't could very well be a maniac, who doesn't have real emotions but is good at faking them.

Yes..., you should care what he thinks. ;)

Oh but I do. I mean where would I be without his constant flow of overly interesting facts, superb motivational support, and most of all, sheer determination to be a real friendly kinda' guy.

Nah I am joking though I do dislike him, simply because he is overly malicious towards me when it really ought not have to be that way when we're debating. There's a guy at our school like that, he has some sort of superiority complex. But yeah I don't like him, but.. Wait... Which column am I posting this argument in..?!

I would present an argument, but I don't care if anyone on this site believes me.

Side: I'm mentally free.

No I don't and as long as they don't put their hands on me.

Side: I'm mentally free.

I don't care what people think, only what they say .

Side: I'm mentally free.

To an extent. If I didn't care, I would probably be an asshole all the time.

Side: I'm mentally free.

While most of the people THINK that they are mentally free, they're emotionally insecure about their looks and way of living. Most people are scared to speak to avoid embarrassment. That's because they constantly think of what others are thinking about them. I am mentally free but most of the people aren't.

Side: I'm mentally free.

Not really, as long as I'm still happy why should it bother me what peopel think? Which is why I care not about fashion, nor how I really look ( too scruffy and people treat you badly, which doesn't work out for me so I don't) and other things like that. As long as it suits me and doesn't piss off other people too much to make them annoy me, then it's allllll riiiiiight.

Oh, and especially when people who don't know me argue with me trying to convince me that I am one thing or another based on a couple of the arguments they have read. That makes me chuckle to see the arrogance of some people. No one in particular..

Ha, I see what you did there, you are taking up the role of Eric Cartman in that he is friends with Kyle Broflovski, and you said Joo because he is a sneaky, money grabbing, afro-bearing, gold snatching Jew, and you didn't want to cause offence perhaps.

Lul what?
