CreateDebate is a social debate community built around ideas, discussion and democracy.
If this is your first time checking out a debate, here are some quick tips to help get you started:
Arguments with the highest score are displayed first.
Argument replies (both in favor and in opposition) are displayed below the original argument.
To follow along, you may find it helpful to show and hide the replies displayed below each argument.
To vote for an argument, use these icons:
You have the power to cast exactly one vote (either up or down) for each argument.
Once you vote, the icon will become grayed out and the argument's score will change.
Yes, you can change your vote.
Debate scores, side scores and tag scores are automatically calculated by an algorithm that primarily takes argument scores into account.
All scores are updated in real-time.

When you are ready to voice your opinion, use the Add Argument button to create an argument.
If you would like to address an existing argument, use the Support and Dispute link within that argument to create a new reply.
Yes, but sadly, no one will vote for the independent for fear of getting the left or right wing candidate, and most everyone leans slightly one way or the other. If people thought the Independent would win and the candidate they dislike would lose, a lot of people would vote Independent. Ross Perot was the last serious one, and Republicans look back and think they simply gave away the election to Clinton by involving Perot.
Why should they have bigger voices if their supporters aren't willing to yell a little louder? Pardon the analogy, but why should independent candidates be over-representing a minority in the population?
That is your assumption. The reality is, half the population does not choose to participate in presidential elections (I believe it is even less participation rates for the 'local' elections). Then, it is reasonable to think there is a desire for other voices to be given a platform in US politics.
If independents want more representation, they need to show that their parties have more support than what it looks like. You cannot expect a candidate to win just because they might have a sizable following.
Yes, I am an independent. I have the right to be heard as well then....................................................................................................
Yes, you have the right to be heard, but not everyone agrees with your opinion. If your ideals don't match the people's wants, needs, etc., then you and your party won't get very far.
We should ALL have the same voice, we should ALL have the same MONEY, we should ALL have the same right to vote! We should ALL be voting without Gerrymandering! That's democracy.
We should all have the same money? So a guy snorting coke and purposefully taking on no job should get the exact same amount as a guy who works 60 hours a week in a factory? And this is why I'm a right winger folks.
I,m the guy in the factory that worked 60 hours ... in a short week! You have so much right wing spin in your head you can't even understand English! We're talking about ELECTION MONEY idiot! Liberals, independents and conservatives that run for office! NONE should have the advantage of $millions over another candidate! You shouldn't be able to BUY you way into an office!
Yet Democrats do it all of the time. They even blocked Bernie Sanders while acting like they are the high and mighty party, despite being the party of mind blowing & provable corruption.
No. You are the guy who's 100 years old, remember's the SS knocking on his door, is now residing in...Rhode Island, and has nerry a rebuke for Farrakhan saying "Hitler was a good man".
Where do you get your info?? I NEVER liked Farrakhan, never wanted to hear what he had to say. Did a couple of times, that was enough! No, the SS never knocked on my door, never said that. But then, things change, today it's O.K. for our President to say Putin is a good man, or, "I believe him." (when he lies to me!)
You're really off today. Can't you make something up that is believable?? (At least you spelled RI correctly, Outhouse60 can't);-)
Where do you get your info?? I NEVER liked Farrakhan, never wanted to hear what he had to say.
Perhaps. But millions of Democrats did and do, including Barack Obama.
Did a couple of times, that was enough! No, the SS never knocked on my door, never said that.
Yes. You said the Nazis knocked on your door looking for Jews. You were a child.
But then, things change, today it's O.K. for our President to say Putin is a good man, or, "I believe him."
Yes, Obama did like Putin and allowed him to get his mits on 20% of our weapons grade uranium. Trump has given Putin no uranium and has put the toughest sanctions in history on Russia. He's putting even more sanctions on them as we speak.
So a guy snorting coke and purposefully taking on no job should get the exact same amount as a guy who works 60 hours a week in a factory?
Hold on. You're trying to turn this upside down. You're defending a system where the guy working 60 hours a week in a factory can't even make a living wage, but the stockbroker snorting coke off his desk and banging hookers in the bathroom makes a million a month.

The bigger question is; Why would such a person stay with a sh'tty job indefinitely rather than credential themselves to move up to a better paid profession?
Why would such a person stay with a sh'tty job indefinitely rather than credential themselves to move up to a better paid profession?
That is not "the bigger question". That is a loaded and stupid question. It is a loaded and stupid question because it assumes a number of false positives. For example, it assumes:-
A) Jobs are so easy to come by that you can simply quit them and find another.
B) People who work 60 hours a week have the time and energy to "credential themselves".
C) We do not live in a world where some people are going to have to work in a factory.
D) It is the fault of factory workers that they have a shit, underpaid job.
In fact, I live in the USA, and after High School I got an apartment with a friend, paid for rent & living expenses while I worked 2 jobs 50-60 hours a week and went to Community College without the need to take out school loans. Also, at the CC, there are many Associate degrees offered for a minimal fee that would credential a person for jobs in the $40,000-$75,000 range in only 2 years time.
Then, why would people stay in a sh'tty job indefinitely rather than go to CC, for instance?
I've just given precise detail about why it is NOT a "completely reasonable question", so I find your response to be borderline deranged.
If you are going to simply ignore the things I write back to you and stick your fingers in your ears, then why do you need me to be part of the conversation? You can do that equally well on your own.
What do you think is stopping someone from attending Community College and ultimately getting a better job?
Why do you think someone else won't have to do my job at the factory if I attend Community College? Do you plan to eradicate the need for factory workers by simply insisting none of them need to be there?
Do you think independents should have bigger voices in the US presidential election?
No, independents shouldn't have bigger voices in the presidential election. They shouldn't have bigger voices because they don't represent the majority. Isn't that what republics are all about? Representation?
