Does Home Schooling Turn Kids into Weirdos?

Home schooling itself does not. But parents with personal agendas contrary to the majority of their society actually DO. And the vast majority of choice to home school come down to THOSE parents wanting complete control over how to brainwash and shelter their kids.

I'm not saying none emerge normal or successful. I'm just saying you're putting those kids fates almost completely in the hands of people who are determined to NOT let them turn out like the majority of their society. And that's pretty much the operational defintion of weirdo.

The correct answer is: it all depends. Some of the most brilliant minds were home schooled, but if the parents are drug pushers you probably create more misfits. In other words, the question is not one that can be answered with either "yes" OR "no". I would favor home schooling over government indoctrination any time. Parents who home school their kids certainly have more love for them than some union-protected government employee.

I said it depends, too. I said "I'm not saying none emerge normal or successful." Clearly yes it depends.

But I don't agree public school is simply government indoctrination. You're giving way too much credit to government having their act together. All government needs to do is give the platform from which common folk have a chance to pull themselves up. That's not indoctrination, it's a chance at survival.

Wow, what a Liberal fanatic you are! You would rather a cold distant political correct Government control our children's minds!

To even suggest a parent, who loves their children so much as to put in all the work and effort of home schooling, does not have the best interest for their children.

People home school for the very reason you mentioned. They do not want a Liberal society controlling their children's minds. Conditioning them to the political correct way of thinking. They have seen what is going on in our public schools.

It is the Left that is bent on forcing our children into political correct public schools, with no school choice!

You are such a judgmental fool to run down hard working parents trying to give their children their best chance of growing up with good common sense moral values, and not being brainwashed into Big Brother's mind control.

Arrogant people like you are what good parents fear. You do not care about educating our children in the basics. You want to control their minds to think like good little progressives.

You completely confirmed the premise of my objection to home schooling. And your objection to socialization with the broader society stands as proof you stand against the core ideals of what the US is about or where it came from or where it's going. Go move to a theocracy or autocracy.

So in other words if you do not turn out like a regular Joe Blow, you are a weirdo?

No. If you turn out alienated from having compassion for or any dealings with the common folk in your society then you're a weirdo. Remember, the home schooling parent is rejecting whatever they think those common folk are and then they instill in their kids to also reject the common folk. To reject them because they don't believe the same religion, share their culture, look the same, etc.

Side: Oh yes, Oh God YES!

Yes. When liberals and atheists home school kids, they come out all f*cked up.

Does Home Schooling Turn Kids into Weirdos?

Difficult to answer, as the question is centered around the quality of the learning environment available at the particular home, due to the parents, guardians, ect. If done correctly under the supervision of reasonably intelligent, informed, level-headed adults, then home schooling is far, far superior to the public school program. However, it could also be disastrous, if the parents are extreme ideologues of some sort, unbalanced, doltish, ect. ect.

No it doesn't but it is imperative that you get the kids socialized, be it through music or some kind of sports or recreational activity. Home Schooling removes the social aspect that kids need.

Agreed. I voted on the other side but we're coming from a similar direction. What it comes down to is whether the home schooling parents are sheltering or coralling those kids into a narrow band of reality or if they're allowing them some degree of socialization with others in their society. Keep in mind though that simply doing activities doesn't fully socialize. If the group you play sports with are all deliberately kept by their parents on the same narrow reality that yours have put you on then you really aren't getting socialization, instead you're getting reinforcement of what was already programmed into you.

Side: Hell no

If you think about it, it really doesn't. If anything it allows a child to get out more and have more free time with the friends they have and create new friends. They always have time to join a rec team and to still have some sort of hobby.

I know that home schooling doesn't turn kids into weirdos. If anything it's way better. It doesn't take all day and you're child can be in a way higher grade than most. It keeps the family together. You can make so the kids love learning. You never have to argue with the administration or the board on how your kids are being taught. You never have to worry about bullying or any kind of regular school issues. And you will always know how well you're child is doing at all times.
