Does a straw have one or two holes?

Do not try to figure out how many holes a straw has. That is impossible. Instead, only try to realize the truth. Ultimately, the is no straw. Then you'll see that it is not the straw that has a hole. It is only yourself.

No hole. A hole implies a solid thing has a space in it.

By contrast, a straw is a sheath around a bar of air, a vacuum, or a liquid as it is drawn through the sheath.

So..., the sheath is not solid ;)

One elongated hole on the same general principle as a tunnel is a hole through a solid mass, usually rock.

One elongated hole on the same general principle as a tunnel is a hole through a solid mass, usually rock.

The tunnel through rock is not an apt metaphor.

The rock started out as a solid mass with a volume that included the location of the (future) tunnel. The hole/tunnel was put into the rock, reducing the volume of rock.

By contrast, the straw's volume never changed. The straw was extruded around a tube-shaped space. The straw's tunnel was produced by inserting a separation between it and the surrounding space.

There is even Biblical evidence of this, so hear ye the word of the Lord.

6 And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the space, and let it divide the space from the space.

7 And God made the firmament, and divided the space which were within the firmament from the space which were outside the firmament: and it was so.

8 And God called the firmament straw. And the evening and the morning were the second day. (Genesis 1:6-8)

Here endeth the lesson.

Thank you Jesus; thank you, Lord.

How to make a hole.

Take a pencil.

Lubricate it's surface with, let's say olive oil, extra virgin of course.

Wrap some plasticine around the pencil.

Withdraw the pencil and, hey presto, you have engineered a structure with a hollow centre, or in other words a long mini tunnel like single hole.

There's no such thing as a hole if you bend both ends of said straw to connect with each other. You then have an endless loop.

YES BRONTO! Holes cease to exist when we bend straws.

A straw is not an endless loop because it's purpose is to get your drink from your cup to your mouth. If you bend the straw to an endless loop it does not fulfill a purpose of a straw and to make this endless loop your connecting 2 ends, 2 holes.;)

A straw has only one hole with two openings. Each opening can be any number of different lengths away from each other. it is the holes depth that makes it a straw, not the opening at the end of each hole. Remember if we look at any hole with only one opening it is simply no longer a straw. While not all holes simply with two openings is safe alterative to a designed straw.

A straw with a number of openings set outside the confinement set by order of hole is a flute. No matter how you thirst and no matter how many beverages may consumed within, the fluid will never play the tune set by your mind, and the minds thirst may not end.

I cannot tell you what you can only see. As you can not be shown what you can only hear. Is it the same hole used by the flute and straw? We only know it does not hold the same propose.

Side: Two.

A hole with two holes close to each other is no longer a straw, it is a ring.
