There are other options besides barter systems. It should be noted that money economies are a type of barter system, where one item is traded for all other items. Money can have restrictions put on it so that some types of derivatives are not possible resulting in another type of economy. For example if actual gold coins were used instead of cash or certificates of gold deposit than much of the debt we now have would not exist. There wouldn't be the credit for modern economies, which depend on debt rather than equity. What are your thoughts on the viability of a large scale gift economy? Side: no it doesn't

Money can make our life go smoother and we can be buy more things, which is nice. Better life in general ? well that is subjective. Many wealthy people, are not happy. Many people who have little money are happy, this proves happiness is an attitude. Money can make our life go a little smoother, but its not the be all and end all of happiness, and for that reason i choose no. Its nice to have money, but its not the source of a better life.
