Does the Bible prohibit Masturbation?

Most Biblical Scholars have pointed to the story of Onan in Genesis as evidence that Masturbation is against Biblical rules and traditions. However, there is also a passage in the New Testament (Matthew 7:6) which may also condemn masturbation, depending on the interpretation. In short, does the Bible prohibit Masturbation? Answer Yes/No and explain...

I think I mirror the thoughts of the others when I ask "If you hate the West so much, why don't you fuck off back to whatever Indian shithole you allege to be from?".

No offense, of course.

Let me give you a great reason to stay here.

Cause it pisses you off so much. Simples.

Here, Here!!! I've already given up on the English-speaking Caucasians. Athens has definitively won, the West is gay. The Future? A nation of pissed-off non-whites looking up at the blazing light of a gay, white male American male who masturbates obsessively called Apollo and his beloved father US General/Admiral 'God' (namely Zeus/Jupiter). Whatever happened to Christianity? You know, those meek, devout Middle Eastern folk (Jews) who wrote the most amazing book ever known and had this quaint idea that everything (sexual) outside of marriage is PERVERSION.

No, it doesn't. The Bible is suprising silent about this topic. While the Bible prohibits many topics regarding sex, masturbation simply is not one of them.

A Pack of Dogs, a Herd of Swine, and 4,000 Years of Throwing Pearls

GOSPEL PASSAGE: Do not give what is holy to dogs, and do not throw your pearls before swine, or they will trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces. (Matthew 7:6)

INTERPRETATION: Do not have sex with prostitutes and do not masturbate. Remain completely chaste or the demonic world will blow you away.

BASIC CONCLUSION:

I. GOSPEL VERSE: Do not give...to dogs = Do not have sex with prostitutes

II. GOSPEL VERSE: Do not throw pearls = Do not masturbate

I. GOSPEL VERSE: Do not give what is holy to dogs,

EXACT WORDS: What is holy

TRANSLATION: Your male virgin (or non-virgin) manhood and/or sperm

EXACT WORDS: Dogs

TRANSLATION: Ritual Prostitute, possibly young boy

MEANING OF DOG

QUOTE: Thou shalt not bring the hire of a whore, or the price of a dog, into the house of the LORD thy God for any vow: for even both these are abomination unto the LORD thy God. (Deuteronomy 23:18)

EXPERT COMMENT: The hire of a whore, or the price of a dog - Many public prostitutes dedicated to their gods a part of their impure earnings; and some of these prostitutes were publicly kept in the temple of Venus Melytta, whose gains were applied to the support of her abominable worship. (Commentary on the Bible, by Adam Clarke, [1831], at sacred-texts.com)

The Bible is not silent at all. Jesus states, DO NOT THROW YOUR PEARLS (CUM) AT SWINE (PORNOGRAPHIC THOUGHTS OR IMAGES)!!!!

You make little to no sense. Do not throw pearls does nt mean do not masturbate.

What an amazingly specific conclusion from such a vague verse. I'm intrigued how you came to the conclusion that 'throwing pearls' means masturbating. Could you elucidate? Why should I or anyone else accept your loose interpretations?

I've always understood the verse do no cast pearls before swine to mean "Don't give something of value to those who will not appreciate it", but if you would like to argue otherwise then I would be open to hear your argument.

If this were a commandment against prostitution or masturbation, why not just say it plainly? Clearly the bible makes no qualms over making outright prohibitions of certain actions, so why would we believe this to be any different?

There actually is a story in the Bible about God Yahweh killing a man for spilling his seed on the ground, but if you read the story you will notice it has nothing to do with masturbating. The story of Onan. Onan's brother died and Yahweh commanded him to make a child with his brother's widow, but during sex Onan "pulled out" allowing his seed to fall on the ground and thus His brother's widow did not conceive with child and Onan was killed by God for disobedience.

So it's not really a story about not masturbating, but about obeying Yahweh when he tells you to have sex with your brother's widow. Masturbating is an entirely normal and biologically useful function, which prepares one for the act of procreation itself.

Those who think masturbation is a sin, are imbeciles.

Side: No

It really doesn't matter because you're going to do it anyway ;)

Side: No

Who cares what the Bible says?

It is going to happen anyway.

Men think about sex 5,000 times a year, which is 13 times a day.

The bible makes no mention of prohibiting masturbation no matter what the man in the pointy hat says.

There best passage to appeal to is Genesis 38:6-10. This passage refers to what has become known as "Onan's sin". Fundamentalists like to insist that Onan's sin was masturbation, but it seems clear that his sin was pulling out when he was required by law to marry and rape (or have sex with) his dead brother's widow. "Then Judah said to Onan, "Lie with your brother's wife and fulfill your duty to her as a brother-in-law to produce offspring for your brother." It was Onan's not fulfilling his duty which caused God to kill him, not his masturbation. There is no other passage in the Bible that can be plausibly appealed to in condemnation of masturbation. The people on the "Yes" side are clueless zealots.

OK, so let me see if i got this right. Onan's sin was not following Larry the Cable Guy's advice to get'er done ;)
