Double Jeopardy means you can't be TRIED for the same crime twice.. But....

Hello:

What is it called when you serve two SENTENCES for the SAME crime..

A life sentence WITH parole is, in the main, around 10 years..  A condemned prisoner, in the main, spends MORE than 10 years on death row, and then he's executed..

No. There are simply two elements to the punishment. In the same way as being imprisoned is often followed by being on parole in the community.

Hello A:

Nahh... Parole is the continuation of ONE sentence. PART of it is served in the slam, and the other part is served on the streets. But, it's ONE sentence..

The conundrum I point out COULD be alleviated by executing the prisoner IMMEDIATLY after sentencing, but I don't advocate for that. I also don't think he should spend what is, in the main, a LIFE sentence behind bars, and THEN get executed..

There could be an argument for not proceeding immediately with the execution of a death sentence on the grounds that new evidence may materialize which would prove the convicted prisoner innocent.

Even though I can't say for sure I feel this phenomenon must happened more than once and an innocent party was reprieved to continue living his/her life, albeit a somewhat traumatized life.

A maximum waiting time should be set with legally binding limits.

There are of course those, of whom I'd probably be one, who would argue that the convicted piece of filth deserves to suffer the mental anguish of their impending death which would be administered more humanly that the criminal's victim(s).
