Evidence Of Life On Mars?

A NASA research team of scientists at the Johnson Space Center (JSC), Houston, TX, and at Stanford University, Palo Alto, CA, has found evidence that strongly suggests primitive life may have existed on Mars more than 3.6 billion years ago.

Yet your article was from 1996. Not exactly breaking news.

I first heard news about fossilised bacteria being found inside a Martian meteorite in 1989. My point wasn't to provide breaking news but rather to question why this isn't common knowledge nearly 30 years later.

OK. I'm sorry I sniped at it.

Like my first sentence - I can believe it.

Simple--the hypothesis was rejected; i.e. this is not evidence of life on Mars

Evidence Of Life On Mars?

This was a erroneous report which came out during the Clinton Presidency. The hypothesis of life was at first controversial, and ultimately rejected by the scientific community. Then, this is not evidence of life on Mars--though, there may in fact be life currently on Mars or from a previous age; we simply do not know (as of yet).
