Fair trade is a marketing ploy that claims to aid the workers of developing countries. What it aids is some workers of developing countries, while disadvantaging others. It gains popularity because free trade seems detrimental to the local producer in the short run. But in the long run, free trade is to the benefit of all involved. In the end, fair trade doesn’t have a substantial enough impact to undercut the benefits of free trade, which is as it should be. Side: Free trade.
