Hello A:

The problem with it, is that the poor will pay that tax on their entire income because they have to SPEND it all.. The rich only spend a small portion of their income..

So, I'd be for it as long as there's a large exemption at the bottom end..

I can't get onboard with this kind of unequal treatment, it's what I would like to avoid.. What if there is no tax on food and rent for anybody, thus eliminating the greatest expense for poor people while giving everyone equal treatment before the law. Would that suffice?

Hello again, A:

Sure. But the problem isn't you or me. It's corporations. While you and I pay around 25%, corporations pays less than 15% on average, and some don't pay any taxes at all. That's what that 3'10" of exemptions, deductions, and text credits for corporations is all about This needs to be stopped.

Hi E:

I'm not so sure that argument is actually valid. The rich person spends many times the amount the poor spends. The rich then, pay many times more taxes than the poor in real dollars, just like now. Comparing taxes paid, as percent of income distorts the picture by making it seem that the poor pay more, when the opposite is actually true. Soooooooooooo
