Freedom

I need to write an essay for my English 2 class where I talk about what is freedom. I am making the claim that freedom is not feeling oppressed, but now I need a counter argument for that.

Well the definition of freedom ......

freedom

ˈfriːdəm/Submit

noun

1.

the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants.

"we do have some freedom of choice"

synonyms: right to, entitlement to; More

2.

the state of not being imprisoned or enslaved.

"the shark thrashed its way to freedom"

Many people never act , think or speak as they freely wish but merely go through life conforming is that freedom ?

You can be free and taught to feel oppressed. Look at the African American community. 70% of the NFL is black, similar with the NBA. The population percent of blacks as millionaires is close to their demographic percent as a whole. We have affirmative action. We as a people elected a black President.

When you are 10% of the population and 60% of the crime, you aren't oppressed. You're in a progressive cult mindset and a part of a culture that breeds poverty, failure, and violence. The excuses aren't working anymore. People are sick of it. If they don't want to be targeted? Quit killing each other like animals and committing crime that is beyond the pale.

To make Brontos point more concise, it is possible to feel oppressed and not actually be oppressed.

Certainly people who are oppressed would feel that they are oppressed, but if people can feel oppressed while they are actually free, then your argument has a hole in it.

This is easily remedied by changing “feeling” into “being” in your definition. Of course then you have to define oppression so that you can define freedom by contrast.
