He isn't too far off with this one; he is just a dumb person who calls absolutely everyone a leftist. I think Libertarian is the buzz word for the politically correct right. I think it is the people who are smart enough to avoid offending people for the sake of offending them, and who want more freedoms in the economy.

It just demonstrates a profound lack of understanding of both political and economic systems. It's analogous to all the folks saying so and so is a commie or nazi because they believe in any form of social services.

Most ultraconservatives on debate websites would get low grades in a typical college political science or economics classroom, not because they don't have the intelligence but simply because their mind is already so warped around their ideology they can't even assimilate a lecture from someone far more qualified on the subject.

Well, I'm not sure of what he meant by that, as I have not heard the total context of his argument.

However, I will say that it IS a misnomer that everybody equates Libertarianism with being a Conservative Right Wing ethos.

Liberals can and do sometimes also have Libertarian views and ideology.

The term only denotes somebody who wants maximum liberty and independence from governmental control. Or interference. And who wished to maximize their personal liberties as well.

Thus...this ethos is not limited to those of Conservative values.

That said....it IS true that most people in the USA think of far right-wing Conservatives and NOT lefties, when they hear the word Libertarian.

For good reason...those types represent most Libertarians.

Just not all.

Thanks.

It's true, though. What we now call Libertarian, we used to call "selfish, narrow-minded, smug jackasses".

So you generally regard libertarians as liberal?

No. Though a small number are.

I read the title as "Libertarian is A new buzz word FROM the..."

My bad.

The proof is in the pudding. I would love to have statistics on how many times Libertarians vote for Democrats.

Here is a news flash for those who just dropped in from another planet. The Democrat party has been tken over lock stock and barrel by extremist PC Liberals.

Anyone who EVER votes for these extremists have nothing in common with the Rght or traditional America where morals were not a dirty word.

You just demonstrated something perfectly! You took a strong, adamant stance, then you wondered what the facts of the matter were.

It's quite funny.

Especially when you then talk about the morality of "traditional" America. You know, the one that committed one of the worst genocides the world has ever seen and perpetuated that worst form of slavery the world has ever seen, as well as denying women and racial minorities rights.

That's the "traditional" moral framework for this country.

Men were about twice as likely as women to say the term libertarian describes them well and to know the meaning of the term (15% vs. 7%). More college graduates (15%) than those with no more than a high school education (7%) identified as libertarians. There also were partisan differences; 14% of independents and 12% of Republicans said they are libertarian, compared with 6% of Democrats.

It's pretty much common knowledge that Libertarians are more conservative than liberal. But jumping to conclusions before knowing all the facts seems to be your thing.

I have lived what I speak of. Most people are phonies when it comes to the parties they vote for. People who claim to be pro life still are willing to vote for pro abortion politicians. They can't evern take a stand for innocent life! They stand firm on little in life other than self.

I guarantee you many libertarians would easily vote for a Democrat.
