Morality is by no means exclusive to religion. If that were the case then no religious person ever would commit any form of atrocity against another and all atheists would have no moral code, two instances we know aren't true. Having morals, knowing between what is right and what is wrong is a part of both humanity and civil law, some need religion as an extra guideline, others don't. Side: From thin air

Atheists are just liberals who hate Christians too much. If people who are Atheists choose to stop believing in God because they hate Christians then there is a bigger issue at play. Not all Atheists are liberals and not all Atheists hate Christians, what you suggest is like saying Christians are just Republicans who hate non-believers too much. Do you remember the Seinfeld episodes where they always finished any remarks about homosexuality with...... "not that there's anything wrong with that"? This sums up the extent of so called moral values of Atheists. They refuse to take a stand on most things because it would not be politically correct to state the obvious. Without a moral foundation from a person's faith, there can be no moral absolutes. No man has the exact same morals as another man so therefore we must now be silent when speaking to moral values for fear of offending someone. Anything goes and if a person dares speaks out on an issue, they will be beaten down by the political correct thought police, calling them judgmental hatemongers. People without God will follow the slippery slope of political correctness, and their moral foundations will shift with the times. In fairness, there were other religions, some still living, before Christianity. One of the oldest found structures called the Megalithic Temples of Malta have evidence of livestock sacrifices. In fact just about every ancient structure has evidence of some form of religion and sacrifice or place of worship so it's not too far fetched to think that religious belief is as ingrained in our history as learning to walk is. With this sage mankind has established rules/laws which are designed to achieve an ordered society in which people can live with dignity and in relative safety. Some of us need a book to tell us how to behave, and some of us don't. But how can you know how to behave since there is no scientific basis for morality? Morality is entirely subjective in your world view because the whole universe wasn't created by a sentient being who's subjective opinion is universal law. Side: They have none

Why can't we just be nice for the sake of being nice? Suits me just fine. I hope you aren't being nice only because of what you think God says. I don't believe things can be objectively morally right or wrong. A question for you: are things (a) right/wrong just because God says they are, or are they (b) right/wrong because of some objective morality that doesn't come from God? I'll start by saying one thing just quickly... Nice choice of views "From thin air". I do agree that religion did a good job of creating somewhat of a structure 2000 years ago. But today it's really not necessary. So yes I would agree religion assisted in the creation of societal RULES. Morals however are very different. I'll try and not make this a debate of religion, because it is very VERY rarely even a debate by definition. Morals would have most likely originated from trial and error, alongside generational learning. One generation learns something, and passes it down to their children. The children improve upon it, and so on and so forth. If humans had morals since day dawn, we would see no increase in the success of societies. Are our societies the same as the societies 2000 years ago? No, they are far far different. Because morals change, they are learned, and improved upon. One thing we have had since the beginning in my opinion, based on nature. Is the willingness to survive. To survive you are better off in groups (especially humans). When in groups the individuals MUST cooperate, they must, how else would the group survive without natural cooperation? Through cooperation comes the sharing of knowledge. Knowledge which becomes guidelines, rules, boundaries, etc. It's as simple as individual humans, becoming groups. Then groups, become societies. It's really not that complex. To argue morals come from a God. One must first prove the existence of God, which has yet to be done. I refuse to acknoledge the belief our morals came from a higher being, when EVERY single theory of God is unfalsifiable. Meaning it can't be proven wrong. In the sense there is no way of proving it wrong. Meaning there is no way to test it. Therefore, any theory based on another theory in which has not been proven, can also not be proven, nor SHOULD it be risen as a point of argument. Even for Atheists, there are different subjects and sub-categories and types of expectations when speaking of - " morality " The Morality of Atheistism is really defined as = the personalized and private morality of the many, many different subgroups of the many atheist's communities and atheists individuals around the world. With Atheists, I believe that the moral standards are diversified and a very massive spectrum in deciding what morality is supposed to be. We have Atheists in The Soviet Union, China, Vietnamnam and Korea who have decided that communism is the moral standard. These atheist communists have murdered hundreds of millions of religious people who were breaking their laws and morals. But Here in the USA, the atheist community has not established an Atheist Communism Government and atheists have been very peaceful and non-violent toward religious people and there has never been a violent conflict between the religious and the atheist. And the atheist's community is only around 22 % of the USA population and although atheists make up about 50 % of the gay community in the USA, the gay community itself is only around 2 % of the population in the USA but Nearly 67% of All TOTAL New HIV Cases. My heart goes out to atheists here in the USA and I hope that they can break free of these problems that are plaguing them. If atheists could follow the morals of the Bible, even if they do not believe in a deity, I believe that atheists can better their lives and a great future would be ahead of them.
