General Advice - Argument Resolution

So myself and my friend are currently having a disagreement over an issue and were looking for independent opinions on the topic so that we didn't drag our other friends in, so hopefully some of you can help us out. I will use Party A and Party B to try and stop any bias creeping in.

Party A asked Party B to help take his brother to the airport - a 6 hour drive of around 440 miles. A offered to pay for the gas/petrol in return for B driving there and back on the same day. B counter-offered to drive the night before, stay for a night, and then drive back the next day. Just before the trip B messaged A to ask if A was still going to pay the gas money, with them splitting the hotel bill. A responded by saying that as they were going to stay the night A believed that they should split the gas bill, otherwise they should drive there and back on the same day, avoiding the cost of the hotel - $20 per person.

In summary, A is happy to pay all of the gas if there is no hotel bill, but would only split the gas bill if they stay the night. In return, B does not want to drive for 12 hours in one day. B wants to stay overnight to break the journey up and will contribute for the hotel, but does not want to pay for any of the gas.

Which Party should compromise and what should the compromise be? Thanks!

Party A should pay gas, hotel plus more for wear and tear on the car and party B's time. To expect someone to drive 12 hours in one day is ridiculous, and to expect the person who is doing you a HUGE favor to pay anything at all is also ridiculous. I'm surprised party B would have the gall to ask party B to not only do them a huge favor, but to also expect them to pay money to do it.

Typo, I think you meant party A would have gall.

Yes you're right, I meant party A.

For goodness sake, tell A's brother to take the bloody train or thumb a lift.
