Glaciers melting cannot raise the sea level

You have a glass with ice floating at the top. Libs want you to believe that if that ice melts, the glass will overflow.

With permafrost you could theorrtically just build above ground tanks to store it in and use as water for households.

Hello MP:

If all the ice was UNDER the surface, you'd be right. It wouldn't raise the water level when it melts.... But, the ice that's gonna melt is ABOVE the water, and when it melts, sea levels will rise.. Think of it this way... Your glass is full of water and ice.. IF you add MORE ice, it's gonna overflow.

I dunno if that's science or not. It's just observable phenomenon..

In what universe will the Earth add more ice to the scenario?

SUPER STUPID where are the rising sea levels at ? You got some facts for us ?

Can't argue with the two previous posters. It seems fairly obvious that the analogy won't work.

Is OP goddamned stupid or what?

Yes, when glaciers melt it raises the sea level, because it lowers the salinity of the saltwater and hence increases the volume of the ocean.

As the ice heats and melts, it expands, and the ice above the surface melts down into the rest of the body of water. In a glass, this is imperceptible

It appears you don't understand density and what makes the ice float. If floating ice melts, the glass literally gets 0% fuller. The ocean is the glass in the example. Floating ice melting in the ocean makes the ocean 0% fuller.

It appears you don't understand the difference between density and volume. When the density of salt decreases in the ocean (i.e. when freshwater ice melts into it) it increases the volume of the ocean (i.e. sea levels rise).

But you're forgetting something huge- the permafrost that's over land.

It would melt and be absorbed and comlntained by the land and valleys below. If we hit that level of heat, we're already dead anyway.
