Glenn Beck: Arguing With Idiots

I recently bought this book I'm thinking it will help me deal with some of you. What do you think? Anyone consider reading it?

The title of the book puts you in a superior position immediately to those who disagree with you. Labeling anyone an idiot who doesn't see things your way is a stupid idea. If you wish to be influential by way of argumentation, it helps if you don't adopt a smarter than thou attitude before you even begin conversation. It worries me to think that since you are having difficulty dealing with opposing viewpoints, you turn to examining something other than.....your own viewpoints. Namely someone you consider to have pondered important issues more thoroughly than you.

I suppose it is natural when we feel lost to look for a leader. But a mature adult can recognize situations where it is truly "the blind leading the blind."

Liberals feel the very same way about conservatives! What a coincidence!

I feel the book could help both sides argue with the other.. Because in reality you're not arguing with an idiot, you're arguing with a very stubborn person with a very strong opinion that happens to differ from yours.

But that brings up the question: what would it help if neither side goes into a conversation with an open mind. Nobody wins.

So, Jake, you can read this book and learn to argue with idiots, or you can not, and simply converse with an open mind.

So it is that I am not the only one! Finally people are coming to. If we could all discuss our issues, there would be no need for partisanship. I found with a great number of conversations with conservatives and liberals that they both have the same ultimate goal. To be equal. What better way to start than shedding our polarized minds?

yeah... the book really isn't about liberals. I never even read it and I knew that...

Funny, the first page of the book is about the title and how people would take it.

This debate was kind of a test and you failed. I was waiting for you. (;

Glenn mentioned that the people with your argument don't make it past the cover. Was he right? Read any of the book? (so much for an open mind)

He mentions that voting a certain way doesn't make you an idiot and that even he is an idiot sometimes. He goes on to say that people of every group can be idiots. (including republicans)

So yes, lets be open minded. Lets open a book.

care to post the relevant content? I don't respect Glen Beck enough to buy let alone read a book of his.

Cute. It's quite obvious (from reading the cover) who he's marketing the book to. People who struggle to hold their own in an argument. You admit that in the debate description. Points for honesty there :)

Absolutely. The Title was chosen to appeal to a demographic that I am not in.

So yes, lets be open minded. Lets open a book.

An open mind that's not critical is not what I am after. How about this. Since you have read the book, why don't you offer criticism about it.

I started writing a book somewhat like it (Stupid, Irrational People) but I ran out of people that I hated.

I didn't read Beck's book, but mine had more to do with irrational ways of thinking than it had to do with people I just disagree with. In fact, a lot of the people I attacked sometimes did agree with me. I never finished, though, because it seemed more like a collection of blog posts than it did as a real book. Maybe over time I'll come up with a better way to write it.

I notice, though, that I made no real input in this post... I like Beck and his anger towards some people. I don't agree with the guy all the time, and he is a bit of a drama queen, but he's entertaining to watch.

You bought his stupid book even after I took an hour out of my day to give you a point by point breakdown of why he should not be trusted? Wtf is a matter with you?

No one can be trusted. And I definitely don't trust you, so why should people listen to you?

Beck is entertaining and as a Misanthrope I share his frustration when it comes to arguing with "idiots". I won't read the book because I'm on the Dark Tower Series right now and hope to move on to other fiction after wards, but i like the concept.

I'm sure I could breakdown your little breakdown but I never got around to it. I didn't even really read it.

I bought the book because I like Glenn Beck and happen to agree with 96% of what he says. You disagreeing with him is irrelevant.

You are what's wrong with America.

You disagreeing with him is irrelevant.

We are entitled to our own opinions. We are not entitled to our own facts. I don't "disagree" with him. The word "disagree" implies a difference of opinion. I know what he says is not based on reality in any way, shape, or form.

Whatever, Jake. Fuck you.

You should also get Ann's book, "How to talk to a liberal, if you must" ;)

Yeah man, Those retarded "liberals" they just don't "get it"! What torture to be forced to interact with such less thans. I need not even read either book to understand why they were written. They are rhetorical ammunition for people who don't want to do much thinking for themselves.

You made a good choice - going with Glenn Beck, that is.
