God's Existence

Lets rehash and old favorite to see if any theists have concocted a single new argument over the past 5 years.

Probably exists

The whole bible was written over a period of 5,000 years, and still seems like its in chronological order.

Coincidence? I think not.

I have often tried to distinguish and define the difference between intelligence and reason. There certainly is one, because some of the most intelligent people believe some of the craziest things. I think perhaps intelligence is just one small part of reason, rather than the other way around. An intelligent person is able to examine, adapt and survive within the confines of his/her own environment, but might not necessarily have any idea about how to understand the limitations of that environment or the biological and/or psychological influence it has had on them. Their intelligence appears to only operate within (or at least concern itself with) the predefined parameters of their own immediate existence, which is where myths and fairy tales about supernatural beings come in. These help reinforce to the self the idea that one's own environment is the only thing of concern or importance, because everything else is the domain of God, or Allah, or the tooth fairy.

Then what controls everything? Coincidence? Sounds more senseless to me

In computing terms intelligence would be something equivelent to raw CPU power, mhz for example, while reason would be the architecture of the CPU which tries to guarantee the right conclusion is always made. Your assertion has no basis in reality, equivocating the tooth fairy to God shows a lack of reason. The existence of a tiny flying person who lives at the end of a garden doesn't explain any phenomena, hence it is an arbitrary creation of the imagination. God on the other hand may be the best explanation for all phenomena as the necessarily existing prime mover that brought all other things into existence. God isn't an arbitrary hypothesis. Simple reason dictates that there cannot be an infinite chain of cause and effect, else how could that infinity be passed to get to this moment? This alone makes a necessarily existing prime mover a reasonable hypothesis, and it is quite simple to build on this argument to bring in other attributes ascribed to God, such as all powerful, transcendental, personal, and so on.

God DOES exist …. in the mind of anyone who wants to believe s/he/it does. Existing IN FACT is something NO ONE has proven WITH FACT. To me, being unable to do so, over thousands of years, is proof enough that the god thingy is imaginary. A Christian, Muslim, Jew rejects all but ONE god, an Atheist rejects one MORE, and goes on with an open mind.

What goes on for the eons after death, is what went on for the eons before birth. Your LIFE is your heaven or hell, whatever you make it. IMO, of course.

Well this might Christians ask you if you tell that in public.

What if you're wrong then you go to hell?

The minimum argument length is 50 characters. The purpose of this restriction is to cut down on the amount of dumb jokes, so we can keep the quality of debate and discourse as high as possible.

Well, then I'll get a chance to meet Donald Trump, Flynn, his sons and daughter, all the Muslims in the world, the Buddhists, many of our founding fathers, most of our scientists that don't believe the world was "created 6000 years ago by God", that KNOW Adam and Eve did NOT live in a "Garden of Eden", that KNOW Neanderthals and earlier species developed into what we are today. Jeez, that place MUST be crowded! Where did you say it was located?? Deep down under the ground?? Space probes and telescopes haven't found heaven WAY out there! If it took "God" six days to make the Earth, and the Earth is a "pinhead" in comparison to many stars and planets … how long did it take Him to build THEM? And why light years away? What good does another galaxy millions of light years away do US? Maybe summer homes for the "Saints"? Nah. You believe what you've been told to believe, I have NO problem with that. Maybe "God" gave me a mind that needs proof to believe things that make no sense? Will HE send me to "hell" because I'm a more "inquisitive creation"? If so, I'll meet a LOT of really smart people, really NICE people with "inquisitive minds", people that helped and saved millions of other people, but, just believed their lying eyes (and "God given" brains?).

My last boss gave me a small plaque for my desk, after losing several bets with me. It said: "I have my faults but, being wrong isn't one of them." Nice loser. LoveU2 ;-)

There was a time where God governed everything: the miracle of birth, lightning, the movement of the stars themselves, and more. As we as a a society evolved our understanding of the universe; we learned to explain nature without invoking a supernatural being every time we are ignorant.

God is human ignorance trying to explain what we don't understand. When we finally understand something, it never becomes a necessity to invoke supernatural forces. God used to heal the sick, now it's your doctor with modern medicine. Leprosy was God's curse for sinning, now its treatment is only an antibiotic dose away.

The people today that still ascribe to the believe in God do it on faith; claiming to know God exists because they don't know, an oxymoron of belief itself. Leaving behind their rational minds so a belief can be held uncritically. There's no tangible evidence that God exists. Most arguments are made on faith, and the ones that aren't don't hold scrutiny.
