They paid into social security, they should get what they paid out. Unfortunately social security in the US is closely tied to the ratio of old to young in how expensive it is. I don't think it would be a bad idea to stop new people from paying into it, and find an alternative way to pay for those who already have. After social security is done with, people should be educated enough that they can provide for their own retirement. Side: yes

They paid into social security, they should get what they paid out. People who have payed into it so far should, but plans must be developed to compensate for the upcoming Social Security insolvency crisis. I don't think it would be a bad idea to stop new people from paying into it, and find an alternative way to pay for those who already have. Private retirement accounts funded by Social Security payments are one solution. After social security is done with, people should be educated enough that they can provide for their own retirement. I'm libertarian so I don't think the government has much responsibility outside of protecting it's citizens from outside attack... I think personal responsibility is a must... people must save their whole lives and their friends, families and churches should help out whenever needed... Having said that, if a country is prosperous enough to afford such things, then by all means that's fine by me. Side: No
