I miss having quality debates here. Instead this site is more of a blogspot and Flaming Exercise. Rants. Should be called CreateRant. There needs to be more enforcement of the debate-type exchanges. More banning by the Administrator for guys going off-topic or high-jacking threads. Any moron here can--and does--ruins potentially good debates by just inserting some troll post, and thus driving the whole thing off the rails into a flame war.

I realize that the site creator must be very Anti-censorship and Free Speech and wants to let us pretty much go at it, unimpeded. In a way I admire this and see where he is coming from. But time comes when some rules need to be enforced. Over at DDO where I used to moderate, a member can swiftly earn a 3-day BAN just for hijacking a post, like doing the bible-tract insertion I mentioned that Dadman does. See over there, he woulda been bounced permanently a long time ago.

Most of the decent debators left this site years ago. All you have now is fucktard conservatives and religious nuts who use this site to preach their political agenda or prosletize about their religion. They do so with zero interest in having an honest discussion about any of the subject matter.

I haven't belonged long enough to have a comparison of then vs now. I do think, however, that there are people getting challenged who were getting away with more in the past than they're being allowed to get away with now, which caused them to escalate their anger. It's not necessarily a bad thing. Personally, I've always thought ignoring the angry radicals is worse. People need to be confronted, they need reality checks, they need need to hear counterarguments so they have to think how to reply, which at least in some small way stretches their minds a little.

In other words it's more toxic because some of us keep standing up to people who often got away with just being ignored or not really having to dig deeper to justify the things they were saying.

It certainly takes better and worse turns over time. The real question is what can "WE" do to make it better?

I concur that debates on this website most certainly are toxic and not based upon the topics themselves but from where I'm sitting the juvenile mentality that accompanies the issues presented in debating. I was under the impression that debates were conducted by educated people with the ability to articulate their position in an intellectual forum. I however get the impression that if you don't agree with me in this forum and or my views then my approach is to attack you even if that means I have to berate you, insult you, ridicule you because the issue isn't about intellectual debating it's about being right all the time which implies to me there is something seriously wrong with someone's ego which I personally believe has no place in a debate.
