I started using Twitter the last few weeks, and find it a great way to keep up to date on hobbies as well as family and friends.

I was especially impressed getting live updates on the earthquake in China as it happened just by pressing "everyone".

Twitter can be really useful if you follow the people who care about the same things that you do. If you are interested in tech startups & venture capital you could follow Michael Arrington or Fred Wilson. By doing so, you can really get a feel for what is going on in that market. It is an amazing way to get real-time data about the real-world.

A lot of people have already begun consuming & producing lifestreams. Check out these twitter figures:

March 2008

Total Users: 1+ million

Total Active Users: 200,000 per week

Total Twitter Messages: 3 million/day

Lifestreaming is all about fame through knowledge-sharing

I just came up with that, so you can quote me on it.

On a separate note,

Tweetscan is my favorite way to parse through twitter to find out what's really going on.

Check out this tweetscan and add yourself to it if you know how!

If you aren't following and being followed by more than 50 people, you will find it hard to understand the beauty of Twitter.

If the only things you tweet, or the people you follow tweet, are about what kind of cereal you are eating, if your reading the newspaper, or going to sleep? Expect to be bored.

If you want to get Twitter. Google "new to twitter" find one of the excellent posts about how to get in the flow, and you'll get hooked.

The most useful application of Twitter for me is with Shopping Sites. I follow http://twitter.com/woot and http://twitter.com/amazondeals to get their latest deals. Sure nothing I couldn't do with an RSS reader, but since many of the best deals sell out quickly, having this notification on IM is helpful.

There is also a handful of friends I follow - just makes me feel closer to them - even if they are half way across the globe.

Twitter is IRC in this Web 2.0 filled Internet. I 'use' it every day, as I would AIM, YHOO, or GMAIL.

Side: Yes

I use twitter but often forget about it because I'm too busy updating my Gchat status or my facebook status....and twitter is basically the same thing. However, you can add twitter to your buddy list and it pings you friends' updates or you can add the application twitteroo. I think it will eventually catch on, as it's fun to eff with your friends over it....but right now I think it's mostly for techie nerds like me.

Side: Yes

You can link Twitter and Facebook, so when you Twit it will also update your FB status.

I have and I've found some twitter tools that are really cool, but I suspect I'm not getting my time's worth out of it...yet?

I'm too young to. But when I turn 13 I will because I think it's a good way to communicate with your friends and family, especially if they don't live in the same country. Also, fans of celebrities can keep up to date with celebrities' lives.

I don't have a need to keep up with exactly where everyone else is at every moment of the day. The people I really care about I can just call or text if I want to get in touch with them, and the rest of them I can just check their Facebook profile to see what they're up to. Also, BBM (BlackBerry Messenger) is a great way to get in touch with people when I'm on the go.

I've never used twitter, and I've never actually talked to anyone that has used or read twitter feeds on a regular basis. Aren't they just like little blogs? What's the point?

I tried using it. I signed up, but then got bored immediately. I really do not find the use of it. I don't really care what someone else is doing every single second of their life... not even people that I know.. so really did not find it useful or fun. I mean Facebook is fun because you can see pics and other stuff.. but just a few sentences of what someone else is doing.. is BORING!

I really don't understand the popularity of that site. I'm a huge techie but don't see any value add in my life to using that site or subscribing to other people's tweets. Seems like a huge waste of time and a huge addition to my cellphone bill each month that I really don't need.
