How Old Were You When You Lost Your Sense Of Wonder With The World?

Adulthood obviously has its own set of perks, but the thing I really miss about being a child is the sense of mystery, excitement and wonder one had with being in a strange new universe. Everything was fresh and new and life was a gift. I think we lose that as adults. In fact, I still remember old teachers reminiscing about the "good old days" and telling me I didn't know how lucky I was to be so young. The irony is that you can't ever understand what they mean until you are in the same position they are.

Guess I'm just feeling a little bit nostalgic. Any thoughts?

I have never really lost it, although there is a happiness I had when I was younger that I no longer have. I still have a sense of "wonder" and "mystery" about the world but I don't have the same optimism or carefree innocence. Reality is still mysterious for me because I know that there is still a lot I don't know but I also know much of what is not true and am no longer susceptible to comfortable delusions.

On one hand the way I think is good because I will never outgrow childlike curiosity, on the other hand it is hell because I cannot find stability in anything other than doubt and cynicism. I am essentially half a child with limitless curiosity and half a grumpy old man who hates everything in the body of a young man.

Hey buddy. Good to hear from you.

I think the brain might have a tendency to look back on childhood with rose-tinted glasses. I often feel extremely happy when remembering my early years, but when I was actually going through it I hated it. Couldn't wait to grow up. Now that I'm grown up though, I wish I was a kid again. Lol.

You and your buddy, nom, ought to have an END of life party, where you slit each others wrists.

This is obviously a serious topic you pathetic little scumbag. It is not the place for you to exercise your personal vendettas.

You are telling other people to kill themselves on the sole basis that they used science to disprove you, which automatically discredits every other post you have ever written about every other topic. You have terminated your own credibility by faking your own credentials as a Jew, and then viciously attacking everybody who exposes the fact that you are a liar.

Get out. And stay out.

I still haven't lost it. There is so much out there to be amazed at if you continue looking for it. New discoveries on Earth that push our modern thinking to the limit or revise the history that we thought we knew. There is still so much mystery beneath your feet and up in the universe, it would be a sad day indeed to become so jaded one loses their sense of wonder.

I think it's an inevitable fact of adulthood. New things are exciting. Old things are not so exciting.
