Gas prices are unbelievably high right now. Check out this link, 30 Tips on how to save gas. Every little bit can make a difference. Until we invest in alternative energy sources, conservation is the key. 642 days ago
I've already bought a road bike (this is mine: http://www.bicycle-heaven.com/images/ It's a lot easier than it might seem. I think I'm going to prove something to myself by taking it 70 miles north to see my mom... So far I've ridden more than 100 miles, over the past month, and I have yet to feel like I cannot go any further. So, I want to see how far I can go before wanting to stop. If there is no limit, hell, I could bike everywhere, save a ton of cash, stay fit, and for what? The cost of a bike and a little more time? 642 days ago
Yeah me too. 'Cept I gotta drive around the city with some revs under me or I'm gonna get left behind. Suprisingly, a 125cc cruiser motorcycle, that really just looks like a macho Shadow, is more than enough vroom to get me there, in style, in league with the big boys, and at a fraction of the consumption and cost you get on twice the wheelage. I don't even need to bother too much about traffic! (Just wear as much armour as you can and drive carefully). I also remember my days back in the woody subs, with my fixed up Trek 700 trail bike (reclaimed from a dumpster) that got me off- and on- the road as I rode the wind. 642 days ago
The UK papers say people are buying 20% less fuel than they did last year. The prices are already too high for me to use my car more than a couple of times a week. So, I'm using my bicycle for most trips with my 2yr old daughter in a seat on the back. I ride carefully!! For longer journeys I'm taking the train. I just wish there weren't so many restrictions about taking bikes on trains. 641 days ago
This has been a big issue in my mind lately, especially since I still owe around $9K on my car. When I first bought it, I figured I'd drive it until its untimely death, and somehow get my money out of it that way. As naive as that idea is (because I still could have bought a junker every year for fifteen years and pay less), with gas prices going the way they are I'm just worried about getting rid of it, much less being able to cope with $5+/gallon gas. Now that the auto industry is finally waking up to the need for more efficient vehicles, hopefully I can get around using my bike and public transportation until some viable alternatives show up. An electric loremo would be awesome! Like Bradford, I also live downtown, close to work, school, etc. I feel bad for everyone living out in the suburbian sprawls though. With the rising costs of transportation, I'll bet there's gonna be a major influx to urban areas. |
