How can one rehash the religion debate?

Assuming of course you believe that is at all possible. Please explain how it might ever come to be that a new debate about relgiion is made, and if you wouldn't mind creating said debate for us to contribute to, that'd also be great.

If you do not feel that the religion debate can be rehashed, you also have a voice here. Please let us hear it and explain why it that you feel ths way.

I do not feel that the relgion debate can be rehashed, in a new way that is.

I've said this several times, and I'm saying it once more for the relevancy of this debate. Nothing new is ever said, no new information has been found, and no one's mind is ever changed. It's the equivalent of asking a yes or no question of fact. The answer will always be the same if you're not trying to fool anyone.

For example "Do you believe in God" "Is the sky blue" There's only one way people are going to answer these questions, and not much can be said after that, nothing new or insightful anyway.

I am an atheist who thinks the "anti-religion" stance (blanket condemnation of religion in general) is naive and that my fellow atheists should focus on improving how it's practiced, rather than thinking that they don't practice any form of religion at all.

I'm not anti religious, I'm live and let live, I have no problem with the religions. I just don't see the use of the debates centered around them, for reasons I explained.

However are you saying that you have an idea on better, new, or rehashed religious debates? If so, I'd love to argue on them, if you created them.

I tried to put one together a while back, with what I thought was an interesting angle, but it didn't take. That was also more christian-specific than religion-specific, to be fair.

I don't think enough people know about the stuff outside the published Bible. :(

Yeah, I know, but I wasn't looking for a laundry list of inclusions/exclusions, I'm looking for the criteria they'd use to make their decisions. In theory at least, one wouldn't need much in the way of familiarity with the works to come up with that, at least.

Even if it cant be rehashed, engaging multiple times with the same question can lead people to change their minds or at least investigate the other side more. Every time you debate youre not going to encounter the same argument and even if you do the other side will not present it exactly the same way nor will you ever respond exactly the same way. Every encounter is different even if the content is the same. And if nothing else its worthwhile to debate it just to keep practicing your skills. Repetition is a key to learning. Years ago i wouldntve been able to argue as effectively as i can now. I had to continuously look up content. Now everything is in my head and i can debate pretty much any theist no problem.

"You can't convince a believer of anything; for their belief is not based on evidence, it's based on a deep seated need to believe." [Dr. Arroway in Carl Sagan's Contact (New York: Pocket Books, 1985]

While I do think it is possible to affect religious beliefs in society and deter them through reason, it can't be done by reason alone, only time, and persistence can help. Theists don't base their belief on reason or evidence primarily, they may rationalize a form of reasoning, they may invoke evidence where there is none, but primarily religion and theism is based on wishful thinking, and indoctrination, I think that it is a natural process that possibly every civilized species goes through to resolve it's superstitious nature. I think religion is just human superstition channeled, and a developed outlet, sooner or later, we will leave it behind.

Perhaps by talking about a new Religion that has been discovered in the world.
