The term Jeans trousers was the old-school English term for that clothing.

Jeans also, in another context, refers to the material in itself (which doesn't have direct quantity unless you measure the distance it covers or it's weight).

Over time, the term "Jeans" began to refer still to the fabric but the other meaning altered colloquially to means the entire clothing of two trouser-legs and the upper part connecting them and attaching it to the waist. This, then meant a pair of Jeans changed to be called Jeans trousers/pants (British English vs American).
