How serious is the issue of illegal immigration?

It's a problem, but greatly exaggerated. Illegal immigration is down significantly from the 90's. It is an issue now because it is human nature to blame something simple, immigration, for a complex problem, the economy. Further, the way to solve immigration is to fine the companies who hire them. Without this regardless how high you build a wall, and how many you kick out, more will simply take their place. And punishing companies is far more difficult than punishing immigrants. Immigrants have no power or money, companies pay for political campaigns. So many politicians take the simple route of playing popular lip service to immigration reform, while doing nothing about it, in order to please corporate donors. None only blame corporations. The closest to real reform you hear is a combination of approaches, any who initiate reform without some universal ID along with heavy corporate penalties, is not serious about reform regardless of how much they talk about it. Side: exaggerated
