How will Stewart and Colbert moves affect 2016?

How will Jon Stewart leaving the Daily Show and Colbert leaving his show to take Letterman's spot affect the election in 2016?

Colbert is going to have a much larger audience now on late night free satellite TV, so he will be able to destroy whoever is running against Billary. Stewart is going to be replace with another comedian (?) so it's a question mark there. Over all it should benefit the democrats.

Yea, when I first heard the announcement I thought it was going to be a net negative for Dems, but I created the debate because I think your right that it very well could be beneficial.

Colbert is no longer hosting a satirical news show. He will be a talk show host. If you are expecting comedic exposes or "The Word", you should look elsewhere. He will be focused on the entertainment industry, not politics.

Stewart is retiring. More likely than not, his replacement will not live up to Jon.

In terms of actual effect on the democratic party (and the republican party), it is negligible. They have far lower viewership than cable news channels. They mostly appeal to young people who generally have the lowest voter turnout.

It's all speculation but there is reason for thinking otherwise. Almost all of the staff from Report will be joining Colbert's Late Show, and CBS gave Colbert the ability to "do what he wants to do." (source) While these late night talk shows are mostly apolitical with occasional exceptions, I doubt it will be the case with Colbert given those circumstances laid out by CBS.

A thing that has a small impact can turn out big effects in the end.

Think butterfly effect, or as the Buddha puts it, "a jug becomes brim full of water, even if you gather it little by little."

Its just the most recent ill effect of climate change. It will topple our economy within a year. Recovery will be slower than defeating ISIS without a strategy. Next we'll be nuking all the gay whales. But at least these two won't be elected president. Seems as though, there is no way to stop them in 2016. Maybe we should skip 2016 and go straight to 2017.

Um, what?

Several words there, but not many of them relate to each other much less the debate.

yes, i too recognize each of those words... i've just never seen them in that order before.

Stewart will have to do something with his frustration... it's coming more to the surfaces as each show draws him closer to his last.

either that or he will just move to the country and try to forget about current affairs completely.... i don't think i could do it, even tho i might want to as well.

colbert will NOT be the same character he was on his show... that character is dead.

but he will always have his view of the world to inform how he deals with his guests... just a letterman did.

i would think his impact would be about the same as lettermans.... which was not insubstantial.

remember how he shamed and cut mccain down to size for "suspending his campaign"... that was a turning point even more so than picking sarah palin was.

Looks like this is going to happen - Jon signed a deal with HBO - will be interesting to see what he does with it.
