How would you reform the education system?
If you had the authority to overhaul the education system from the start of preschool to the end of high school, what would you change and what would you keep?
This includes anything to do with schooling - the curriculum, methods of teaching, extracurricular activities, discipline, etc.
Once a child learned to read, write and had mastered basic math skills, they would be able to choose their area of study. The focus would be on discovering what the child is most interested in and has aptitude for, then helping them find pursuits that are fulfilling to them. The encouraging of curiosity would be a primary concern. An emphasis on the need for them to help discover and learn things, and an early familiarity with what we do not have very good understandings of. I suppose I am not really inspired to write much of an essay but these are the thoughts that popped into my mind. :) Education must not be limited to the facts. There has to be an openness towards the consequences of those facts having to take a turn. There has to be a moral and an upright, the best to do objective taught to all the kids. It is important to learn how the world wars led to a dreadful impact. The reasons why it happened at the first place. Kids must not just be taught what apartheid is. But, they should be taught to respect it. 1
