I'm just asking people if they think Tupac Shakur is actually the Greatest of All-Time, or just overatted because of his untimely death.

While there is no doubt that he had lots of swagger and charisma, and that he sometimes delved into deeper philosphical territories than some of his contemporaries and almost all current mainstream rappers, he was certainly no genius and his lyrical delivery and complexity were fairly basic. He wasn't really doing anything particularly special, and much of his lyrical output and attitude simply supported and favored the exact barbaric mentality that led to his early death. In that context, I feel he should be a sobering example, not a hip hop hero. Side: Yes He Is

I mean, if you look at how many people still idolize him and maintain that he is the best rapper in history, I wouldn't say he's overrated at all. Which is precisely what makes him overrated. Decades after his death and he still has so much hype. If you have reason to believe he doesn't match up to the hype, then he is overrated. Side: Yes He Is
