I Hate Criminals (and everything else)

and what the absolute fuck can we really do about them? people get bent out of shape that we have an "Incarceral state" so we can't make them work in prisons, to make them pay for the meals and guards. a lot of that has to come from taxes! why Am I punished for idiots not doing what they're supposed to be. Exiling doesn't exist anymore, otherwise I'd suggest that. if they don't want to follow the rules GTFO. at least then the military can treat them like a foreign country and if they declare war it's a death penalty brought on by their own stupidity/aggression. and then the death penalty is outta wack, but I mean what the hell are we meant to do with the mass of people who refuse to follow the law habitually.

The supposed reason for prison is rehabilitation. but that only works if they WANT to be a part of their society. in the UK it is virtually profitable to run businesses that at their center are shoplifting from other businesses. they get a slap on the wrist and can go back to stealing in a few days. in the US, the Punishment is different, but considerably longer. and in the end, the person may still not be rehabbed as the claim is that it puts them in a situation from which they cannot escape. which seems awfully deterministic. and accepting that claim suggests that there are no bad people, but only bad situations, yet despite this, whatever welfare has been designed to boost people out of the "Situation" it never seems to work.
-
I stand by the notion that there will always be poverty, that is not a matter of a "situation" that a person is placed in, but a squandering of opportunities. it is therefore my feeling that governments need to stop worrying about reaching out to those who see themselves as victims of the "Situation" and instead propagate opportunities for everyone. they need to stop encouraging and instead give chances. make the punishment for crimes harsh. and give a stepladder out of the situational hole that people shout that they're in. not fill the hole up with dirt from the hills. in this way it will not fix poverty, the poor will always be with us, but in this model, the poorest will be those who failed every opportunity, and they will not be comfortable where they rest. but they will have the ladder out. in this way, hand ups are given. not hand outs.
-
This is a superficial description of the relation to poverty and crime. a person in the "situation" may see the ladder as licking the boots of their higher ups and refuse subservience. but, subservience is the only way to move up the ladder. it is my opinion that if we all have experienced service for another, equality, that which many want to see will become very clear and very present. it needs to be seen though that equality still runs on quid pro quo, those who do nothing for themselves will likely be seen as nothing. and that is all the more reason that opportunities need fostered not reparations for the poor. that is not to say I am against the use of alms. Just merely that it's not a government's duty. particularly if tax is how those alms are made and paid.

I agree with your general mindframe. I would like to add my own thoughts:

Criminals is a very loose and ambiguous term to me. To one person, you might be a criminal, but to another, you are a hero. The only reason why someone legally would be called a "criminal" is if they did something that broke the law of that particular society they are living in. They could do that very same thing in another society, and probably not be a criminal.

For example, if I'm a very responsible gun owner in a country that allows the legal possession of firearms, I'm an upstanding moral citizen! But drop me in another country where possession of firearms is illegal, now I'm a criminal.

So the essence of the person has not changed. They are the same person in both scenarios. What makes them a criminal or upstanding citizen is dependent upon the laws of that society.

Why does this bother me? Because it's so ambiguous and fickle. Anyone can make up any law and suddenly you are a criminal when it was previously legal for the last 200 years and I was not a criminal. It comes to down to a matter of viewpoints. I asked a similar question about who is a traitor and a hero, and the answer is you can actually be both at the same time, it just depends on whose side you are on.

So I don't really know what criminal means and who criminals are because everyone is a criminal and everyone is not a criminal all at the same time. Sure, you may not have murdered or raped someone, but you're still a criminal if you stole some bread to try and save the life of a dying starving loved one. It's so wishy-washy.

I would like to see a lot more creative methods and approaches to "rehabilitating" so-called criminals. I, do agree with the idea that they should be put to "work", for the sake of learning how to work hard, contribute to society, but also build character, self-esteem, skills, experience, and it benefits everyone. But it's all about money, and we are all ruled by greed, so the best solutions will never be used because they often do not make anyone any money. This is the sad reality about the human condition, "human depravity". I made a debate about this recently.

I agree with what you say. You just described the exact opposite of this new age extremist Socialist democrat party.

They are all about HAND OUTS...... not hand ups. We all know why this is. Its the vote stupid!

Democrats get 95% of the Black vote every election even though Democrats never help get them out of poverty or out of the ghettos. All Democrats do is create more Government social programs to help keep minorities on welfare so as to keep their vote.

Loving parent helps their children to grow up, take responsibility for their choices, teach them the value of hard work and supporting themselves. Love and compassion teaches responsibility and accountbility for one's choices.

Democrats are the exact opposite of true compassion. They are ALL about politics and getting elected.

You really expect the state to love you? I think you really are expecting too much from the state that they can be responsible for steering peoples lives in such a profound way. People are going to fuck up. Period. The question is, should we help them when they do and by how much.

we help people by setting the minimum to be a less than comfortable provision. if they choose crime, it's dealt with harshly, effectively making the poorest the same as those in prison but with liberty. in prison there will be no opportunities to be better. only time served at a hard labor to make up the damage you've done, and then you're back on the streets with the same provision, and the hope you'll choose opportunity over further crime.

-

the idea however of a provision is somewhat disgusting to me, as nothing should be free...but there should still be some amount of safety net. some minimum that anyone can live off of uncomfortably....Assuming we have the right to life, which seems dubious to me. as how can a nation so big and so disconnected from the every-man ensure that right?

I dunno. I made this post because I'm pretty much furious at everything for not working. both in the "not producing goods" and the "not functioning correctly" way.
