I wonder why Americans 50 years ago understood the importance of families & Fathers.
Actually 50 years ago was the 1960s. The women's rights movements of the 60s and 70s came about specifically because of chauvinist men in the period you're idolizing, including husbands and fathers, who were oppressive and abusive at home and had virtually unchecked family power. It ushered in an era of new laws against child and spouse abuse because it all got swept under the rug otherwise. Women back in those days were limited in employment and income and couldn't even get approved for a credit card without their husband signing for it, and the idea of being able to divorce a bad man had societal stigma heaped against he woman, so they were largely forced to stay. The difference then verses now isn't that they all valued the family and fathers more, it's that they literally couldn't leave. I personally agree much of the problem today is that fathers are bailing out on their fatherhood duties and then children raised without fathers face more problems. I'll grant that. But this isn't simply a moral issue. This isn't just back then they valued this thing and now they don't. The good old days, as they're so often implied, actually were not good for large swaths of population. I would not trade today's society with individual freedoms and protections for the old chauvinist obey the man family structure of the past. I think they understood because so many people who showed they loved there kids actually did love them and the fathers them self knew that it was important to take care of there children but know it is i don't i'm leaving and so many fathers leave when there children are 3 and younger. so back then they really cared but know it's i don't care and i don't want to show child support the world is crazy. 0

I love how you hold the Democrats responsible even thought all of the Bush years with a GOP controlled congress they changed nothing with their conservative ideas. Maybe you should move to the Middle East and join the Islamic movement they seem to be on board with you religious based morality and personal responsibility. |
