Organized Atheism is now a franchise. The other day, The Sunday Assembly—the London-based “Atheist Church” that has, since its January launch, been stealing headlines the world over—announced a new “global missionary tour.” In October and November, affiliated Sunday Assemblies will open in 22 cities: in England, Ireland, Scotland, Canada, the United States and Australia. “I think this is the moment,” Assembly founder Sanderson Jones told me in an email last week, “when the Sunday Assembly goes from being an interesting phenomenon to becoming a truly global movement.” Structured godlessness is ready for export. --------------------------------------- Atheism As A Religion: An Introduction to the World's Least Understood Faith Side: It's a dogmatic religion

Did you read the article? It states why they do, it also states it was started by comedians and also notes most atheists: "...... are not part of organized groups and “are not obsessed with fighting religion or arguing about it,” Phil Zuckerman, a sociology professor at Pitzer College, told TIME. Just like us? What is "us"? Comedians? Christians? Pizza eaters? People like to congregate towards other people of like mind. That's never been anything new. From the article you presented it seems like these people were doing it as a tongue in cheek form of gathering and it's gaining steam. It's seems to be like a bowling club or book club. I mean how often do you sit down with youths to talk about Atheism? Is it a usual topic of conversation for you? It isn't for me. Side: Who knows
