Hello J: "If someone has been found unmistakably guilty in a capital crime, they should waste no time," ----------------------- The key word above, is IF.. Appeals courts HAVE found mistakes in capital trials.. People have been WRONGLY convicted.. Often times, those mistakes don't reveal themselves until the appealate process takes place.. Shouldn't we give them that chance?? The Constitution says we should.. excon Side: Murderers Deserve a Chance Too

There absolutely are cases where guilt is unmistakable. There have been murder trials with videographic evidence, of all things. Yet, some of those individuals are still placed on extensive death row time. There's a reason I specified the "If" in my original debate topic. If one believes that they have the right to take a human life in cold blood, they deserve to lose their rights as a human. Side: Screw 'Em. Do It THAT DAY
Death sentences should be delayed: forever. If a person is arrested, tried, and found guilty, they no longer pose a threat to society, and there is no reason for them to be killed. The right to live is a basic human right, which should not be taken away by anybody else, let alone an imperfect government. Side: Murderers Deserve a Chance Too
I'm going to have to agree with excon. IF is the key word. We've had multiple instances of mistaken identity (one just recently in regards to a man serving time in jail for something he didn't do) and misinformation given to jurors. (I think that's the spelling). While I do agree if there is beyond a doubt evidence, such as multiple witnesses to the crime and the arrest, and there is NO chance for a mistake it should be sooner rather than later but I think that will A. always depends on the crime and B. all of the circumstances forming a culmination of beyond any doubt what so ever. You can set a deadline without it being same day. How about 6 months? The problems with immediate executions are: 1) It opens a huge door for government oppression, because they'd have the power to eliminate anyone and everyone who opposes them long before there was a chance for either an awareness of the situation or for reassessing whether they're guilty or not. 2) It makes it difficult or impossible for victims, family of victims, and for family of the convict to attend the execution. 3) You may not be able to get good press coverage quick enough to capitalize on the message of executing the bad guys.
