If people don't wanna vaccinate their kids, should the government FORCE them?

To start, government should bar children from public schools unless they have been vaccinated.

On occasion the government has to restrict freedom, in the form of quarantine, for public health and safety. When a large scale health emergency arises due to many unvaccinated people interacting, it becomes reasonable to force vaccination.

That being said, homeschooled people living out on the farm have a case against this kind of imposition. The level of government that this should apply to is the local level with city ordinances.

A measles outbreak in Washington state prompted Gov. Jay Inslee to declare a state of emergency on Jan. 25.

As of Thursday, 55 cases have been confirmed this year, most of them in unvaccinated children under age 10. The outbreak's epicenter is Clark County, Wash., just north of Portland, Ore.

Measles is a highly contagious disease that can result in brain damage, deafness and, in rare cases, death. In 2000, measles was declared eliminated from the United States, thanks to widespread vaccination campaigns.

Taking people’s choice isn’t very liberal of you Con. If someone wants to move to the sticks and homeschool their children, that’s their right. If they want to opt out of vaccines for their children, that’s also their right, up to the point where it is hazardous to others. It is not always hazardous to others. That’s why it should be a local decision.

That's directly attributable to letting Bumfukians decide for themselves to endanger the rest of us

You seem to think the anti-vaccers are some kind of bumfuck country movement. Last time the outbreak was in LA, because of all the anti-science Hollywood types. This year it’s in New York City. Not Bumfuck New York City. East coast liberal New York City. I haven’t heard about the measles in Oklahoma. Seems the bumfuckians there do just fine with choices. You’re railing about a lefty problem.

When I was in grammar school we were told we'd ALL be vaccinated on a certain day several times. Not only that, we were told we'd all be fingerprinted on a certain day. Since then several diseases have been wiped out and I never had a problem from being fingerprinted. Freedom is good, but, national health and security is important also. Today's people are more afraid of losing "personal freedom" than they seem to be about preserving the country. Every individual is important, but, the country is MORE important than any individual, that's why so many have given their lives for it. Individuals that endanger the country should find someplace else to live.

Is that the reason these idiots don’t vaccinate Al because they see it as a loss of freeedom?

It’s an alien concept to me , where I live everyone gets it done.

Measles

Measles is also known as Rubeola and is a highly contagious respiratory disease caused by a virus. The measles spreads easily to others when an infected person coughs or sneezes or through close personal contact. The best protection against the measles is vaccination.

A record number of measles cases occurred in the United States in 2014, with 644 cases from 27 states. This is the highest number of cases since measles elimination was documented in the U.S. in 2000, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The majority of people who were infected with the measles had not been vaccinated. Measles is still common in many countries throughout the world, and unvaccinated travelers can bring the disease with them when they travel to the U.S. Measles can spread easily throughout a community wherever groups of people are unvaccinated.

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/17/nyregion/measles-outbreak-jews-nyc.html

Through the fall, traveler after traveler arrived in the ultra-Orthodox Jewish communities of New York from areas of Israel and Europe where measles was spreading. They then spent time in homes, schools and shops in communities where too many people were unvaccinated.

Within months, New York State was facing its most severe outbreak of the disease in decades, with 182 cases confirmed by Thursday, almost exclusively among ultra-Orthodox Jews. Health officials in New Jersey have reported 33 measles cases, mostly in Ocean County, driven by similar conditions.

AL can you believe it's the JEWS causing the problem ?????????

Dummy, YOU wasn't in school in the 1940's! (Sometimes [often, actually], I wonder if you EVER were). A fellow named Gaskins once said: "The only people mad at you for speaking the truth are those that are living a lie." Are you MAD?? Actually, you don't have to answer that … it's kinda obvious. ;-)

As far as the Jews causing the problem, doesn't as much of the blame rest on the shoulders of the "too many people that were unvaccinated"??? Vaccinations are available to anyone that wants them in this country, if they don't get them, "Righteous" people like you are quick as a Nazi to blame it on the Jews! Ignorance IS pure gold!!!!!!!!!!! (As well as, sometimes, pure racism!) :-P You must think it's a bad thing for Trump to support Netanyahu?? The "JEW"?? One of THEM "causing the problem"?? No, AL cannot believe"it's the JEWS causing the problem?????" It's the "PURE GOLD" of people like YOU that IS the problem! :-(

Awww, outlaw, you will be sorely disappointed if you just type in "Fingerprinting in schools, 1940" in your search box. Simple enough for you?? (I just want you to practice your typing. Careful of your spelling now, OK?? And NO dirty words! ;-)

Unfortunately there too many irresponsible/'couldn't care less' parents who need to be commanded to attend to certain parental functions such as having their children vaccinated against highly infectious, life threatening diseases.

Parents who refuse point blank to have their children vaccinated should be quarantined along with their offspring until a programme of forced immunisation is completed.

Side: They SHOULD

I don’t agree with forcing citizens into doing what government wants even though in a case like this I’m sorely tempted , parents should be prosecuted though and jailed if serious injury comes to the child through their ignorance to accept what’s accepted by most as standard and necessary practice.

Why the hell would a parent not vaccinate anyway is it because of religious beliefs or what?
