If the ban on certain drugs were lifted, would they be used more, or less?

Really no way to tell. There are reasons why it would go up (people want to get high and will not face consequences) and reasons why it would go down (research and education on drugs will become more explicit and less interfered with by legislation, as well as more openness about drug problems which makes it easier for people to seek help if needed).

Who knows. No one. But keeping them illegal hasn't done anything to lower drug use, anyway. And I think the interests of personal freedoms and the issues of the black market should be enough to see why prohibition of substances doesn't work.

Agreed that there is no way to tell but I suppose peoples' mindsets might change, especially new generations growing up into a soceity where drugs are legalised. Drugs will be seen as acceptable and will definitely be more easily accessible, besides eduaction campaigns that might exist what is screaming out at them that drugs are harmful?

More drugs used, but not by a lot, and more responsibly used, with better quality and less death-by-bad-drugs, more facilities for those who want to quit drugs thanks to the billions++++++ in taxes collected, and less crime since it would no longer be in the hands of criminals.

All guesses. Good guesses though I think.

If drugs were legalised, it would be harder for kids to get hold of them. Right now, if I'm fifteen and I want to get pissed, I have to either steal alcohol or get someone else to buy it for me. With weed, you can just ring up a dealer and get it in under an hour. If under 18s had to be ID'd for weed as with booze, usage would definitely fall.

Never thought about it this way. You're absolutely right. I mean, think about it: alcohol is so hard for me to get (I'm 16) because it's restricted. It's legal. But weed and other drugs are actually easy to get. Not that I'd want to get any of these drugs.

i think human brain is built like that we want to know about things which are out of our hold,we have curiosity to know about those things which are banned. It can be anything from books to movies and i think it is same with drugs. If governments of various countries legalize them there will be less curiosity, hence less consumption.

During the first few weeks, if a ban on a particular drug was removed, the consumption of that drug would increase, due to it being legal, as it would allow easier access to that particular drug. However, as time continues to increase, the consumption of the drug would decrease, because of the fact that legalization would increase the access and ease of acquiring the drug.
