No.

The criteria for making amends for a wrong that has been done, reparation, by providing payment or assistance to those who have been wronged does not apply in this case.

Your grandfather wasn't wronged in any way by any party, nor did any official body commission him, or even ask him to engage in such an undertaking.

Whilst such a voluntary act of compassion is commendable his volitional action is not justification for the unwarranted squandering of taxpayer's money by making payment to any of his dumb, useless grandchildren.

Why don't you wise up, grow up and try to formulate one or two sensible topics for debate?

I'll put it this way:

My family is from the South. We owned plantations, and yes, slaves. Does that mean that I, their descendant, am responsible for the sins they committed? No.

If your grandfather died freeing slaves, then his wife would receive reparations. If she's still alive, that is. Which I doubt because the Civil War was 6 generations ago. But for the sake of continuity, let's continue. If the wife is also dead but they have children/siblings/parents still alive, then obviously they would receive the benefits. As a grandchild, you're not exactly the most eligible for the reparations until all of these people are dead.

On the other hand- these are different times! You live in a completely different world than your parents, aunts, uncles, or grandparents. Viewpoints change. Which is why I have such an issue with calling a white person a colonizer. That was generations ago.

If I want to be petty about this, then no, you're not. Your reward is the fact that you live in a country without slavery. Enjoy your personal freedom.

Hello bront:

IF the government put your grandfather on a stinkin reservation, are you entitled to reparations in the form of exclusive licenses to open casinos?

I say you are. What say you?

Sure. Give us checks and bankrupt the system due to guilt for something you and your grandfather personally didn't do. I mean hell, why not feel guilty that there are short people. You had as much to do with both.

If you want to be extra libby, just send me a check now rather than when the government takes it from your checks. Sound nice? Sounds great to me. I'll stroll over to the casino once I cash it screaming, "This is for you Mr. Jackson!" Then I'll piss on a twenty dollar bill and on the floor and force security to tackle a legless Native so I can scream some more and get on CNN.

Of course it'll then be about twenty seconds in before they cut my mic like the great Bolshevik censoring Commies they are.

Hello again, bront:

I don't personally support reparations.. I'm simply suggesting that reparations to the Natives serves as a precedent for it..

However, since we're BOTH against the exclusivity of tribal gaming, would you support SHUTTING them down? It would seem that badmouthing reparations for black people, while supporting Native gaming is a tad hypocritical.
