In your opinion, what age is right for a teen to have sex?

Should it be the current age of consent in your area, lower, higher?

Or do you believe in the 'when you are ready' idea ? (if close enough to the legal age of consent)

What about in some countries, where some ages of consent are different for homosexual couples to heterosexual couples? Discuss?

I feel that the boundaries of consent are not compliant with each individuals , personal circumstance.

Back in the days gone by when my grandmother was young it was quite the norm to marry at 14 , have kids by 16.

Personally , i feel that 17 is an reasonable age of consent ,depending on the age of the other person involved.

Just because i feel this age is closer to a reasonable proximity as far as rights to individuals go , does not mean i believe they should be having sex at this age.

I lost my virginity when I was 16 to a 21-year-old. I've never once regretted it, I've always had safe sex, and I didn't have some big Lifetime-style emotional epiphanies/breakdowns.

That's just me, though. It's very very different for each person. So I say... whenever! Not whenever they want to (god knows I've wanted to since I was 10), but when they're in a relationship that's ready to become sexual.

Have fun, kids. :)

Most people i've spoken to who lost their virginity at an age which was much lower than the standard age of consent, have said that they don't feel any regret about it because at the TIME it felt right to them. Take me for example - i lost mine at the age of 14 which sounds quite young, but actually, when you look at the REAL rate at which teenagers are having sex and getting pregnant in this country, it's not abnormal at all to have sex when you're 14. Even 12/13 nowadays, i wouldn't put it past 'em. And the point is, girls and boys will naturally want to have sex as soon as they hit puberty, because it's natural to want to mate and make the human race continue as soon as you are physically able to, no matter how much society tries to get in the way of that. So i think the age of consent in today's society should be about 14 - because that is the average age at which girls and boys hit their peak of puberty. As my dad always said - if you try to push nature down, it'll always fight back at you !

Fifteen or sixteen sounds like a good age. Fourteen just sounds too young and seventeen too old.

i personally think that you should wait at least until the age of consent to have sex. any younger than that i think is robbing the cradle... like the tenn may think that they are ready but i personally think you shouldnt have sex until at least 16 yrs of age

the age should be 12 , as kids shuld start learning about sex at a young age where they will understand the risks and practise safe sex !!

This might be a useless opinion, in the context of the question, but I don't really see the point, or want to, tell other people when and how to do anything.

That being said, as far as the law, I say that the age of consent should be set at the age of puberty; Either at a specific age, or literally at puberty. Which would depend on the person.

20 years old or older, but I support comprehensive sex education .

Side: my opinion

Is the question asked for everyone to express personal reflection and to show the right age varies from person to person... or to aim for a legal age, a law to regulate the age? I ask because, no one should decide the right age for someone else, that choice is an individual choice (and human right to choose for oneself)

My opinion? Teens shouldn't have sex because they aren't mature enough to be married yet. Meaning they shouldn't have sex outside of marriage.

Strictly my opinion though. It has nothing to do with countries or laws or anything.

i think teens shouldnt have sex. i think when they are responsible enough to handle whatever mistakes they make. no metter what, something can happen and they have to know what to do then.

The right age for a teen to have sex is in his or her thirties ;)

Hmm...lemme guess...you are one of those people who doesn't let your kids date until they can drive. No offence, but that is absolutely ridiculous. If kids wanna do that, let them. That way if they ruin their life, it's their fault. Its the same with drinking. If there wasn't a "legal" age, kids wouldn't feel so compelled to do it. You see, it's human nature. If a rule is made or an age is established, it gives us a rush of excitement because we know it's wrong and we are getting away with it.

So let me say back to you what I uderstood from your statement. You would prefer it if your parents stood by and watched you destroy your life without intervention. Right?
