CreateDebate is a social debate community built around ideas, discussion and democracy.
If this is your first time checking out a debate, here are some quick tips to help get you started:
Arguments with the highest score are displayed first.
Argument replies (both in favor and in opposition) are displayed below the original argument.
To follow along, you may find it helpful to show and hide the replies displayed below each argument.
To vote for an argument, use these icons:
You have the power to cast exactly one vote (either up or down) for each argument.
Once you vote, the icon will become grayed out and the argument's score will change.
Yes, you can change your vote.
Debate scores, side scores and tag scores are automatically calculated by an algorithm that primarily takes argument scores into account.
All scores are updated in real-time.
To learn more about the CreateDebate scoring system, check out the FAQ.
When you are ready to voice your opinion, use the Add Argument button to create an argument.
If you would like to address an existing argument, use the Support and Dispute link within that argument to create a new reply.
Well..., here's the problem... there's only so many debates that fit on the front page. If you make 100 debates, you are just pushing the other ones down and they will never get to see the light of day.
They are not spam. They are perfectly valid ideas for a debate. I look at your (PrayerFails) debates. I ofttimes add arguments. I look at Dacey's, I look(ed) at Hmicciche's, I look at JakeJ's debates. If I find one that interests me, I will post. What you need to do is advertise your debates. Mention it to other users - if you find a similar debate, add a link to your own.
The reason for my number of debates is that I have long had a deep interest in sociology. I have always wanted to know why people think what. This site allows me to pose questions to people and see how they respond, or to see how they take a counter-argument. I wish not to belittle anybody - indeed, I find your debates quite fascinating - but that is no reason not to create my own. Nowhere have I read a rule which said that one is allowed to make only X number in a week. If there was such a rule, I would abide by it.
Yes. We need good strong quality debates, with people who give well thought out and intelligent answers.
You're spamming. Your debates may be good, but when you make 10 more, there's no point in replying to them because nobody has the time to get through them all.
It is spamming because you two are going for points and not for quality. A lot of your debates are rather interesting but you can tell that a few of them you simply bull shitted just to get some points.
That does not change the fact that many of your comments and debates are spam.
As of now, your last six arguments have barely made it to filling up over a line and are around one or two sentences long. I would have nothing against that if they had substance in them, but many of them don't add anything to the conversation and it is clear that you are going for points rather then contributing to the debate.
I have more to my life than just this site. Joe usually has one liners and everybody loves them. I alternate - if I can't think of anything, I joke. If I enjoy the topic but can't think of anything, I study. If I know the topic and am in the mood, I write out a long(er) argument.
Wow. I looked through my latest arguments. You're right - they are all one liners. But I think that they have more value than you seem to give me credit for. Many of them were in the 'comedy' category - I would be an idiot to be serious is that topic.
Those debates are a couple HUNDRED days old, nobody will ever read them again. By posting in them you are not making anyone laugh or even contributing to the conversation simply because nobody will ever read them.
Listen, pilgrim. You've been here for a might bit longer than me. Now I don't know about you, but I've got a hell of a lot more experience. Hell, a lot of folks take a looksie at the older debates. I ain't the only one.
Maybe the ones that were created over the last few weeks, but some of the debates you have been posting in recently have not been posted in for over a year since you came along!
Clearly, nobody is looking at them. If people had been looking at them then they would not have been abandoned for so long.
You make some good argument, but overall you are a point whore. So, no, you are not more experienced for the reason that posting in a dead debate where nobody even sees your arguments does not result in experience gained.
Man, oh man. Maybe I'm not the one to speak out on this issue, but wolfbite, you present a persuasive case. This guy is earning points by talking to himself. That is just...sad.
I think my debates are good ones. Others may suck big time, but they are not offered simply to get points. If they suck, I've simply failed to make my case. That's OK, I'm not right every time and I don't mind if that is pointed out.
Why do you think that I make them just to get points? I'd be on this site even if there were no such things as points. I couldn't give a damn about them - but they are fun.
I'll look for the quote if I need to, but I'm sure you'll be honest and admit that you said that unlike joecalvary, you go for quantity rather than quality.
Which basically means most of your debates suck and you are point mongering. Sure, if we were seagulls, you could claim to have more fish than anyone else. The problem is, they are all rotten.
I'm happy to be at the number of points I have. Other than my silly and satiric debates (which actually have a point after all), my debate topics and supporting arguments are well thought out, artfully presented and well documented with plentiful links. That's what matters to me. Points are meaningless, as proven by your high count
Fair enough. I only know what I've seen in recent debates because I have not been here in a few weeks.
But I cannot tell you that, from what I see of the recent debates minus a couple, that the majority of what I've seen from you has not been spam.
Now, granted it is not fair of me to judge the whole by probably what was a couple of days of debate for you. But you can see how someone would assume you are a spammer if they just ran into your debates I'm sure you understand.
So is it more important to wrack up a bunch of points really quick? Or is it more important to have good arguments?
For me the answer would be neither, because I rarely come here anymore. But if you go the Joe route you should be aware you will be generally ignored and disparaged.
For the record though, Joe occassionally does have a good debate. One good debate though out of a hundred does not make a good debater, monkey's would accidently write Hamlet given time and typeweriters and all that.
I go for quality AND quantity. If I thing up a stupid debate, I don't make it. Simple as that. Though, there are times when I have streaks where I create one off the top of my head. As for arguments, it depends on the topic. If it is a topic I am fascinated and [fairly] well-versed in, I will write a longer argument. If I have only a passing fascination with it, I will write a smaller argument. If I know little beyond the information written by other users, I'll go the Joe-Route.
A rivalry implies that the competition is mutual. Would I join a contest to see which of us can spam and scam our way to the top of the vote pile? Not my style.
It is said that the guy with the tallest tower feels superior to others. But if the tower is made of shit, it is not especially impressive to anyone.
Alright then, you are my enemy. However, I also have time and an overactive imagination. I have little reason not to spend all day on this site - and you've gotta admit that it can be quite boring without anybody else.
I am not doing it by talking to myself, I am adding additional details to various debates, most of which have been accessed by others recently. I usually find them in the 'Active Debates' section, which means that somebody wrote something recently!
I create debates. People respond, I respond. If I get no responses, I forget about it. But, points are only of tertiary concern for me. I prefer debating in general, and I enjoy getting my 'point' across.
Well, yes. I mean REALLY. Who would have the kind of time to do that? And I understand that you really like this site, but personally, I think you have an addiction to it. That is NOT good. Plus, you really shouldn't make a few stupid and pointless debates just to get points. And you say you're NOT spamming....yeah right. But SERIOSLY. Go out and do something else but this every once and a while! REALLY!!!!
Yes it proves that some people are more concerned about showing their opinion (which is not bad to express your opinion) than working on things more important.
