The stores are merely a place to sell things, yes they do get benefit but it's mostly to the benefit of the corporations that manufactures the products.

Oh, definitely. Even if I don't celebrate the holiday fully, I have come to realize that the over-commercialization of the holiday has caused it to lose much of its true meaning.

Very. You even start getting Christmas deals in October in stores sometimes. Presents are great, but the way people spend so much money on Christmas is insane. Last year, the average amount of money spent on Christmas related items in the US by adults, was $419 dollars. They're just paying the corporations even more money. All you need for Christmas is maybe a present or two (more for kids) and family. If you have none, go to a charity home and meet some new friends. Money doesn't buy you happiness.
