Yes, the vast majority of people need direction and channeled into the trades and professions where their natural attributes will be best suited to benefit the overall communities in which they live. Even the primitive tribes have a hierarchy which is usually determined by the perilous procedure of 'selection of the strongest and most ruthless. This form of crude, but occasionally effective, form of government can also be seen in the world's various dictatorships. On the much scaled down version of a corporation it is vital to have strong and professional management which will provide a sound business plan to ensure the long term prosperity for the company along with the necessary stimulus to inspire all the appropriately positioned staff to perform to the maximum of their ability. Even herding wild animals which live in social groups will have a hierarchical structure which is essential for the survival of their species. Side: Government is Necessary

I very much want my boys to grow up in a society with laws, utilities, roads, civil rights, etc. Most of the time when people declare no none of those things require a government they're either two young or two old to know or care that society remain civilized. Side: Government is Necessary
At the moment, yes government is necessary, though in the future this may not be the case. To begin, borders are necessary for successful countries to exist. If a successful country were to permit everyone to enter then the quality of life would quickly plummet due to mass-immigration. This is because most of the world lives in abject poverty and so these people will migrate to developed countries if they are permitted, seeking a greater quality of life. However, if a country's population were to rapidly increase this would place an immense strain on housing, employment, infrastructure, schooling, welfare etc. While this problem may be solved by individuals enforcing a border, this necessity is poorly understood and many would not want to contribute. Then there is the problem of the military. Of course any nation needs a professional military to protect from outside threats and lacking a universally intelligent populace this requires taxation. Policing could be performed by private individuals and groups but there comes the problem that they must somehow be funded and kept in line. There is a real danger that any private police force may become abusive racketeers. Further, what is to stop outside powers from establishing a hold in any anarchic nation. This could be done through corporations and NGOs, or spies and other influencers. In short, the populace would be ill-equipped to deal with subtle outside threats. Finally, the vacuum of power is likely to lead to some group filling that void. Prevention of this would necessitate a citizenry that was both powerful and vigilant. Side: Government is Necessary
A great example as to why we need a government is Trump in the White House. We actually have no "government" right now, we have a "man who would be king", who rules by decree (Executive Order), who makes decisions on what he THINKS most people want (based on his most ardent, radical, supporters, the "basket of deplorables"). THEY are the only ones who count because HE is all powerful, knows more than his Generals, has the best "brain" in the country and punishes any who go against him! (Besides, HE has "the codes"!) Get rid of all who oppose him! ALL HAIL KING TRUMP! ;-( Side: Government is Necessary

If people could be counted on to respect one another, we wouldn't need government.. But, they DON'T, so we DO. You are making a classic mistake. The easiest way to show it is like this:- If people could be counted on to respect one another, we wouldn't need religion.. But, they DON'T, so we DO. You don't need government. What you need is the police. Side: Government is NOT Necessary

No of course not, obviously I support the idea of an anarcho-syndaclist society. Mainly because it will be easier for me to establish my hereditary monarchy if everyone is prepared to share everything. In summary, we don't need a government, we just need ME to fulfil my destiny as the rightful ruler of this planet... Side: Government is NOT Necessary
