homework is necessary for what? i have had classes where i could sleep and pass with a high grade, i have classes that I did(8th grade science class, various highschool math classes, college freshman elective intro to formal logic, various segments of my current c programming class, current physics class etc.). Homework can have its benefits, but I have always found my own studying to be far more beneficial if the benefits of homework ever did need to be evoked. sadly homework often gets in the way of that.

Well, thats you. you may be a super fast learner, or you may be able to acquire knowledge without the help of previous instruction. But for people like me who are struggling in advanced math courses, not doing homework helps us to not be able to apply units to tests, because we've had no practice. Trust me, I know from experience! haha! Do your homework and it will be easier to pass a test!

I do not doubt that homework helps. I am not exactly the sharpest tool in the shed myself, and am fully aware that homework increases ones understanding of material.

Let us say, however, that teachers did not assign homework.

You still have your books with you. you still have practice problems. Just because it is not mandated does not mean you cannot study of your own free will.

And this is still assuming that school is necessary, or any education whatsoever. I already spoke on this subject, and rather than repeat it here I encourage you to read my written argument

depends on the test, in my high-school the required economics and government classes were jokes. Its not so much me being fast, (trust me I can be slow, I have spent ridiculous amounts of time on things that should of took much less), its also rare to not have some type of previous instruction in a subject since the basics build off of common experience and the more advance subjects off of those. Learning is a inherent part of our existence, I'm sure you would find the math class easier if it was more natural to you, try to apply your lessons in your daily life, even if its on trivial things and you'll likely find homework unneeded, maybe even a hindrance. I guess its a good sign of being a nerd if you look over a edge and immediately think D=Vit+.5AT^2, especially when you decide its only AMD = .5M*V^2 joules which your legs/ground will have to take to jump off etc. ah..crazy nerds.

Hello. My name is Karishma Gupta and I believe that homework should be banned.

Assertion: Homework is done after a long tiring day of school.

Reasoning: The child is already tired after a long day at school. As a result, few students do their best when they have to sit down in the evening to do more work. Homework ends up being done in a hurry and poor quality work is produced.

Evidence: Some students stay up late at night to try to finish their homework. As a result, the students come to school tired the next day and are less ready to learn.

Homework, if anything, has NEGATIVE results in schoolchildren. Studies show that countries with less homework (China, Japan) have better than countries with more homework (Iran, Greece). Also, children hate homework so they associate homework with learning and will not learn all the way to their full potential. This is the next generation people! Plus; Homework does not require the teacher, it requires parents to help their kids. If a parent tells their kid the wrong thing to do (lets face it. they will) kids will get used to doing the wrong thing.

Homework=Bad

Please cite your sources. I do not believe this study you claim.

"Positive relations were found between the amount of homework students completed and achievement, especially at upper grades (6–12)"

I, along with the article I cited, agree that homework is bad for morale

"At lower grades (2 and 4), teacher-assigned homework was related to negative student attitudes"

So, I can conclude that this factor was considered. However, the final statistic indicated that, despite the drop in morale, homework is linked to acheivement

If the school extends the day to a couple of hours, then no homework should be given.

yep! homework is a necessary part of schooling. it helps in revising the days studies done in school. so those who don't study at least have to read stuff to complete their homework. so in a way homework does help and so is necessary.

btw stop making these debates all over again. I have written almost the same thing 100s of times before.

what helps is not necessarily necessary. With out the helping hand of a catalyst a chemical may still form. without a cane a blind man may still navigate, etc.

what helps is not necessarily necessary.

no but what helps is usually in high demand. or at least in demand.

although the blind man may still walk without a stick he is sure to stumble somewhere. similarly in students, if they don't have an helping hand they will stumble in their course of life somewhere and for not letting this happen, homework pops up.

It serves as an intellectual discipline, establishes study habits, eases time constraints on the amount of curricular material that can be covered in class, and supplements and reinforces work done in school. In addition, it fosters student initiative, independence, and responsibility, and brings home and school closer together.

to my mind if people do not want to study they will not, and homework cannot interested tehm in any subject. may be homework make them remember about some points, but it is just on really short period of time. Students should learn about themes, which are interesting for them, then in future it will really helpful for them

homwork is necessary because even though we have work at school we need to improvise. Homework is necessary also becausei have this student who is a pro in maths, she never does her homework. When i told her to write an exposition on facebook she only did 2 lines. But the students who did their homework did at least 3 18 lined paragraphs

homework is meant for a review, you still may choose not to do you homework. Consequences might just say you get bad grades, detentions, community services, a email to parent, the 'talk' with teachers etc. Having homework help knowledge being kept in the long-term memory, therefore you may receive a formal education.

Homework is necessary, at a minimum, because you are improving or consolidating your knowledge. After all, without practice, there is no point in studying something. Moreover, if homework turned out to be too difficult or you had other things to do, you can always ask for help on the Internet. The custom dissertation writing service Edusson Australia can help you with any kind of written work. They helped me with dissertations and I was very pleased with the quality and speed of implementation. Therefore, to cancel homework is not necessary, it is an important part of the school and student life.

Homework is a vital thing in every person's life. It improves our skills and helps us to be more creative and to overcome some problems in order to be successful in life.

Every homework which is given to us in each subject is essential. By doing homework we learn more about that subject field. For example, athletes do some extra exercises and work hard to be more experienced and off course to take the winning places in Olympiads.
