It depends on your looking. If your looking at the state and local levels, it seems a bit more painful. However, if you look at the federal government, it's actually positive. It appears that illegal immigration actually helps the economy by increasing the GDP by .1%. Sure, that isn't a huge amount of increase, but it certainly discredits argument that illegal immigrants are just a drain on our economy. When I say it looks more painful on the state and local level this is because the low-skilled workers tend to have a tougher time finding jobs because of the competition with the undocumented workers. However, the consumers are the direct beneficiaries of that competition, though it may hurt those unskilled laborers. The illegal immigrants drive down production costs which give a lower cost to consumers, and this is a link that is often forgotten.

Meanwhile, even while some claim they are just idly sitting by absorbing our tax dollars in the form of public schools and emergency room care, these immigrants are spending money on federal social security and income taxes, and locally on sales and property taxes. Perhaps this is why it's difficult to claim illegal immigration is good or bad for the economy. While it has a net positive good, this is not to say there are not problems with illegal immigration that must be addressed.

Certainly, it would be much more beneficial if these illegal immigrants were actually legal immigrants, or perhaps even temporary immigrants (i.e. they are issued work permits). We should simplify the road to naturalization through unorthodox means, like naturalization through military, community, or civil service. I hope the DREAM Act will be passed with this hope. However, comprehensive immigration reform is in order and the DREAM Act is only a temporary solution to a broken system. We must all call on our senators and congressmen and women to bring this issue of domestic stability to the table.

It depends on the level of development in the country which immigrants have chosen to do immigration. In my own opinion it has more advantages, however we can do this more beneficial like the payment for crossing the broad of the country to live there and create the tax for living. Firstly, If the country is well-developed and has a lot of immigrants who desire to live there it will help significantly for the economy and have an crucial factor for money. Secondly, the level of works in the economy system will develop. Like immigrants have to work better than they think, if it is not so, immigrants will be moved out from the country or pay the additional tax or fine for non-workers.

if you were to ask about immigration in general, the answer would have been both, as it aids the economy in some ways but not in others.

however the fact that you ask about purely illegal immigration is mainy bad. this is because in a majority of cases it is mainly untaxed, meaning that they get paid without it being pased back into the government and helping the economy.

secondly it is bad for the economy because in most cases, they send money back to family abroad, this means that the money doesnt get reentered into our economy

This debate should have been titled, "Is immigration good or bad for the economy?".

It's extremely bad but obviously you can't have an honest debate with people who think illegal immigration is ok.

Completely no, we have people who are illegal immigrants that are getting welfare but they aren't paying taxes to get the welfare. Makes no sense at all. Saying they have no job at all and getting money for there kids, I mean I know that's taking away from the kids and there well being but it isn't fair for people who have earned their rights. Everyone has the rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness but I think you kinda loose it when you decide to brake the law just like legal citizens do. I know someone's going to mention like well if they have more then 2 kids they shouldn't get more welfare then anyone else but is making the law really going to stop someone from having sex or having children? I honestly think no. But that's just coming from a 14 year old I may be wrong but I'm learning but that's why I came to this website I strive to learn.
