Is Repentance Necessary?

Going back to the Crucifixion, the good thief on the Cross next to Jesus simply asked Jesus to remember him in His kingdom.  Jesus promised him that he would join Him in Paradise.  I may be mistaken, but I did not see any passage where the good thief said that he was sorry for all his sins.  The good thief took up for Jesus and rebuked those who were condemning Jesus but never said he was sorry for any of his sins.

Question:  So, is repentance for sin not a necessity but only someone's Faith in Jesus is all that counts?

Repent all you want, it is necessary for you to do it so that Satan can make you feel even worse when you realize that everyone goes to hell.

Good job..just about every statement you made in your OP is wrong. LOL

Let us enumerate them, shall we? OK, good.

First of all , there is no such thing as Satan. The Devil. Lucifer. All that Crapola. Pure Mythos and Fiction. Derived from the original Hebrew word "hasatan" meaning "adversary." It was actually used quite often, usually regarding any person who was an enemy to the Tribe. Humans. But the word was skewed and morphed into the legend we have now, a former right-hand Angel of God who fell into apostasy. In Hebrew Mythos He iis simply used as a a vehicle--an icon--to blame Evil on.

So, since Satan does not exist, he cannot "make you feel worse." He can do nothing.

As far as everyone going to Hell, well, not to be a nitpicker, but you are again spectacularly wrong. LOL. just as there is no Satan, there is no "Hell" either. Unless you want to call a total void, a complete and permanent absence from God's Grace as a "Hell." Because THAT is what happens to those who do not attain The Next Level--commonly known as Heaven--after their deaths. They are relegated to a sort of nebulous, formless, void. A darkness in which no divine Light shines and God is not heard or felt. They are, rather, left alone for eternity with their own thoughts, and are subject to watching--re-living--a sort of endless video/mental "loop" of all the harm and the bad they did while oin Earth.

You sound rather confused about matters concerning Theology and Eschatology. I hope this helps you a bit. Please don't hesitate to ask if you have any further questions. Thanks.

In short, you don't believe in Satan or hell and tried to sound like I was a dumbass who made them take to even suggest either was real but either could be real so thanks and bye. xoxo

If you will not repent, how can you receive forgiveness? Repenting is turning around and going the opposite direction...it's saying sorry for what you did and going a different way to avoid doing the thing you repented of.

The thief on the cross spoke evil of the Lord before he changed his mind and spoke in agreement with the Lord. Matthew 27:24 plainly states that the thieves which were crucified with Him mocked Him. The dying thief repented, he realized Jesus is Lord, and He asked the Lord to save Him. He repented and believed, He received the Savior and became a child of God.

The words expressing repentance do not mean as much as the action. True repentance causes change in actions.

Repent and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved from Hell.

I think it is bad to not realise the consequences of your actions but repenting to a supernatural being is just unnatural. Praying to God to forgive you is just a selfish way to get out of the fact that were bad. If you stole something don't pray to God to forgive you, actually do something in the real life that is going to work, like repaying the one you stole from or do something kind. Training kindness, not asking for it, makes it habitual.

Good Lord (see what I did there? LOL) of course repentance to some long-dead 2000 year-old itinerant Jewish carpenter cum political insurrectionist is NOT necessary.

Or even encouraged if you wish to remain to being considered as being of sound mind by all of us who KNOW that god and his sonny boy and most of the bible are nothing but silly Bronze Age superstition and myths, which long ago ceased being pertinent in today's world.

We would all do much better do repent only to people in our own lives to whom we do wrong. And to forgive ourselves as well sometimes, and try to do better. No god is necessary to have good morals and live decent lives. And to be accepting and empathetic of oyur fellow man.

Repenting to a non-existent god is to simply enter a make-believe world, and is like taking an emotional placebo sugar pill just to make yourself feel better. Cracks me up. Christians do all the sinning they want and then go repent in their heads or if they're Catholics go see some pederast priest and tell him their sins and then they think they are back in god's grace. And STILL superior to us atheists. LOL.

What a crock. When WE are the ones who go it alone and man-up and admit our wrongs to the RIGHT person: the one we harmed.

Most of the sacraments and rituals and traditions in religion are simply escape or denial mechanisms, designed for weak and deluded minds. Or designed by the Church itself in order to wield more control over their flocks. Again, The Catholics are the kings at this!

LOL
